Hotel for TAM 3

Isn't he the one that will take funny pictures of you sleeping during the trip?

Hey, exarch - BigShoeStu is driving from Calif to TAM, so PM him for a ride :)

I'm planning on being in California before TAMIII, so if all lights are still green for the event for me next year, I'll put in for a lift as well.

Of course, California's a big place, and I'm not sure exactly where I'll be, so...

Yes, I'm aware of that ...
Still, from California a car is a conceivable means of getting to TAM. Not sure how long a drive that would be though, but it's possible. Also, I'll need to get a ride back to LA to catch a flight after TAM ...

So Stu, are you up for a drive to Las Vegas with an Aussie and a Belgian? And where are all the (skep)chicks whenever you plan a road trip? Didn't Renata drive to TAM this year? Wyvern? :D

yeah, but Renata's car has TINY backseat. I have to lose some weight before I try to squeeze in there.

Well, since exarch dragged me in here... :D

If I go to tamIII I would be happy to take passengers. If I still have the same vehicle I can take 5 people (besides me) quite comfortably. Plan on about 5 hours. Give or take depending on from where in LA you leave.

I just can't make any definite plans. My situation in very much up in the air.  Sorry. :(

If push comes to shove, it's pretty easy to get flights from LA to Vegas. Or you guys could rent a car to drive there and back.

You didn't have to respond :p

Hmmm... I think a flight to Vegas might not be quite that cheap. How much would it be to rent a car? It was like 50$ a day in Vegas I think, for the cheapest crappiest car they had. Might not be the best alternative :(

Looked at www.expedia.com, and Round Trip via United or US Air is being quoted at $121. I expect if you try the Southwest Airlines www.iflyswa.com site you might be able to find even cheaper tickets.

I also looked up a minivan rental (figuringing you'd go in with 2-3 others in LA) and it would run about $55.80/day. Smaller, single person cars would be cheaper, and in the US normally you get unlimited miles...but insurance is extra and not cheap.

But cheaper than the alternative when you have a little oopsie ...

Just a quick bump for anyone looking for Hotel info.

I just booked on-line for 13-18 Jan in the West Tower at the rates Linda quoted. They charged me the first night cost to my Credit Card now, will presumably charge me the rest when I show up.

Note, there is a 9% tax added, so the $60 rate is $ 65.40 total and the $90 rate is $98.10 total. So for 5 nights I'm paying about $392.40, or $78.45/night average. Not bad.

Well, got the Registration and the Hotel taken care of...now I just need the flight and car.

I'm coming, I'm just poor right now....

Kitten2 is trying to talk us into letting her come. Considering that she might not enjoy all the speakers, and would rather ride the cool rides and look around, I'm not sure we are going to spring for her. Still, she's whining enough about it we may have to give in....

Same here I'm afraid. Won't know for sure until a month or two has passed ...

So how many people are bringing significant others and such that aren't attending the meeting? What are they occupying themselves with? And would they perhaps put up with a kid?
I must admit that my main reasons for coming are first of all the chance of seeing a bit of the US in the week prior to the meeting, and meeting all the nice folks from the board. The speakers are just frosting on the cake really, and I'd probably go to TAM even if they didn't have any speakers at all.

Me, too... :(

Good to know I´m not the only one.

Can't afford to bring anyone with me. Funny thing is, I picked out a cheap flight, and will be going from Alberta out to Minnesota, and then down to Vegas. Have a 4 hour layover in the airport to look forward to while being farther East than I have ever imagined going! Don't know if I will see much of anything there though. Kinda neat knowing I'll be that close to the Great Lakes.

I'm coming out mostly for the meeting of like minds, and the workshop and speakers. Hopefully in a future TAM I can bring my man, but he isn't that interested (I'm really hoping for a PJ party with the other skepchicks, and maybe talk about that too much :D). It would be great to share that experience with him though. Maybe I can convince him once I truly do experience it myself :)

On the "Tonight" show last night (15 November), George Carlin announced that he had just been fired from the MGM Grand, but would move his act to the Stardust "next year." If George has a show sometime around TAM3, I'm certainly going to go!

[Background: Carlin got fired from Las Vegas hotels many years ago for doing anti-establishment material, as well as using naughty words like *ss and ◊◊◊◊. His most recent firing, he said, was because his material was too "dark." In particular, his act includes a 20-minute segment on suicide, and this segment seems to be the controversial material in question.]
