Henry Kissinger

Interesting Kissinger story in today's New York Times:

New York Times said:
On Tuesday, the National Security Archive, a nonprofit research group at George Washington University, published an online edition of transcripts of 15,000 Kissinger phone calls from 1969 to 1977, fully indexed and searchable for the first time. A selection was posted on the archive’s Web site, nsarchive.org, and the full collection is available to subscribers, which include many university libraries.

Who would have guessed that Alan Ginsberg called up Kissinger and asked him to appear naked with him on television to stop the Vietnam War?!

Why did America but people like Slobodan Milošević, Radovan Karadzic and Saddam Hussein in trial but not the most famous war criminal Henry Kissinger? Is it because Henry Kissinger is a jew and AIPAC and Israel rule America? Henry Kissinger is not in jail even if he is a war criminal.

Definitely not.

Kissinger will never face trial for the same reason no Allied leaders faced trial for their war crimes in WWII. Winners of wars (and countries enjoying a hegemony on world power) don't have to.

Yup, and that's who write the text books, the winners.

I am not aware of Kissinger personally performing any criminal actions or giving any criminal orders that were not approved by his superiors. So I can't see how you can call Kissinger a war criminal without indicting Nixon and others in his cabinet who were involved in formulating and carrying out the policies. AFAIK Kissinger never had the final say.

Does anyone else think that moon1969 and Magz might be the same person? One seemed to appear around the same time other disappeared and they share a similar racist flair.
Nah. Different style. Different focus. Moon speaks of events globally. He has a particular disgust for Robert Mugabe and he hates many of the Russians with an equal fervor. Also, I'd have to say that Moon, while single-minded, does indeed attack targets that are at least debatably evil. Magz just hated Jews, and he wasn't picky about which ones.

Anyway, if you want to make a rational point about Kissinger, moon1969, you'd help your case by dropping the racial rhetoric.
That would be wise. Kissinger did indeed do some very bad things, like ordering the secret bombings of Cambodia. (Though they weren't very secret to the Cambodians.) There is plenty of stuff to dislike him for, and possibly even charge him with in international court, without resorting to rhetoric.

While what you say is true, I think that Kissenger was to Nixon what Rumsfeld was to Bush, the architect of his foreign policy. Kissinger himself seems to agree on this point.

Uh, no, not Commander in Chief. Nixon is allowed to take the rap for that, since the State Department does not draft execute orders for DoD. Please see Defense Reorg Act of 1947 on how the chain of command works. The buck stops with Nixon on that one.

Thanks.

Officially, you are correct. I doubt, though, that you are so naive as to believe that Kissinger did not have a lot to do with influencing Nixon to submit that executive order. Yes, I know that lets Henry off the legal hook, but not the moral one.

Kissinger may have been the brains of the operation but Rumsfeld was in the chain of command. I guess that makes him a co-conspirator.

This. And, if Kissinger were put on trial, I'd doubt that AIPAC would be involved.

In '73, W was in the middle of a multi-year booze-n-cocaine bender, IIRC.
