I had a dream last night that was set in ancient Egyptian myth. I need some help with the proper names of things/characters so that I can do some reading and understand this dream.

The dream:

I was charged with conducting the boat containing my ex's corpse to the underworld/land of the dead. He was wrapped as a mummy.

I got him there safely but then instead of staying with him, I went to a country fair and played games and ate wonderful food.

So, any help please with the story my dream is plagiarizing.
Thanks

The only specific myth I can think of that's anywhere close is Isis recovering Osiris' golden coffin and returning it by boat to Egypt, whereupon she made him the first mummy. Start by looking up Isis, Osiris, Set, and golden coffin, and maybe Horus, though that bit comes later.

Thanks.

I've been searching and can't quite find it.

Perhaps I'll use an online dream interpreter. They are valid, right? :D

Hmm. The sun god Re travels on a boat through the sky, and the boat passes beneath the earth into the underworld, but I don't remember hearing the dead go along for the ride. I think they have to make the journey separately.

Osiris became king of the underworld, and is sometimes depicted as wrapped up as a mummy with the head (with green skin) sticking out, but Isis didn't take him to the underworld. She reassembled his corpse on Earth before that, and part of her trip involved a Mediterranean trip. I don't know if they pursued a legal separation after his relocation or not. She did make special efforts to find a particular part of his anatomy: the Egyptians had some amusingly earthy myths. The problem is finding a non bowdlerized translation. (The quarrel between Horus and Set involved some interesting events, and one important argument was resolved by the divine equivalent of CSI in tracking exactly where the disputed semen went to!)

Here's a pretty good resource for all your egyptian mythology needs. It doesn't have everything (search on 'golden coffin' turned up nothing, which is odd), but it has links offsite for more details about many things.

ETA ...of course, maybe if I looked for 'golden sarcophagus'...

Marq,

Does it say anything about eating cotton candy while ridding the ferris wheel?

Lol. Probably a sinister Freudian interpretation would be easier to find than such references in Egyptian myth.

Although, the inscriptions at the temple of the Elder Horus at Thebes do include the lines "And mighty Heru-er and Sekhmet Daughter of Re did ride upon the Great Wheel of the Sun, and spent much gold on contests that were not run by honest men of Khem. Later, Sekhmet did vomit up that which she had eaten, and spake unto the queasiness of fast motion chariots while consuming fried sugar."

I usually interpret my weirdest dreams to mean "you ate bad Thai food". There seems to be a distinct correlation. ;)

My dreams never seem to follow any rational pattern. For example this dream I had while I was a kid

EXAMPLE: The dream started at my friend’s house. Everyone in the house was dead, so I left his house and started walking to mine. As I headed toward my house a man on a black motorcycle wearing black jeans, a black helmet, and black leather jacket began chasing me. I started running, but he slowly began catching up. I just barely made it to my yard before he got me. I then noticed that vines and jungle like trees were growing around my porch. I pushed my way through the vines to find Yoda at my front door. He reached out his finger and touched my index finger (ET style), and I was instantly teleported back to my friends house. Where the motorcyclist was waiting to chase me again.

Your dream was created by your Brain, which gave you a look into YOUR recent events, i.e. what you have done, read, seen on TV, etc, you get the picture, recently. Analysing this random flow, of information, that is your dream, is futile, and won't lead anywhere. Your dream was perhaps about an egyptian myth but that was because you have at a certain time been in contact with egyptian myths in someway, films, tv-shows, etc.

All science point towards that your dream was a randomised film, put together by you own brain. I myself have had Egyptian themed dreams at times, probably because I have seen the mummy films and I have also been to Egypt.

But if you believe that your dream means something in a supernatural way, go ahead, there is loads of woo-woo information on that subject on the net.

It means you want to sleep with your mother.

You could never post this filth on a Christian forum because we Christians have higher moral standards.

But I could post something about a guy offering his virgin daughters to be playthings for a horny mob, right?

Wow, you seem pretty good at this sort of thing. Perhaps you can help me with a troubling dream I had recently.

I dreamt that I slept with my mother.

What do you think that represents? :con2:

Explain prophetic dreams.

It means you want to escort a mummy to the underworld on a boat, then go to a fair.

Duh.

Some of them yes but I'm asking the materialist fundamentalist Anders how prophetic dreams fit in with his religion.
