I was just thinking...When Saddam was dictator, Kurdish kids were running for their lives, away from the soldiers. Here children are running "toward" those in charge. A refreshing image on many levels.

I am sure that Saddam could produce images of Sunni kids running "toward" his troops, too. Would you claim that that would be "A refreshing image on many levels."?

There are very few countries that go in for the death penalty for those under 16 and generally most countries that do have capital punishment don't use is as a punishment for property damage.

Shooting kids for throwing stones is generally viewed as a bad idea since you then tend to have to deal with their older parents coming at you with guns. So much simpler to stick some amour plate between you and the person throwing things.

They were probably hoping for any throwoffs from the truck, not necessarily water. That it was water rather than chocolate bars makes it look even worse.

And, of course, this gets attention, not tens of thousands of films of troops handing out food and water and medicine.
