Harry Potter Speculation thread - NO SPOILERS!

I stand corrected. The spoiler need not necessarily be a male at all. I was thinking more of your typical Netizen who must get spoilers up on his web page ASAP.

BTW, thanks for the spoiler!!!! I obviously haven't read Order of the Phoenix yet!!!!

;) I don't care, either...

New thought:

Maybe the Krays, um, I mean, the twins, off Percy. Does not advance the story line but, to paraphrase someone "justice is as justice does..."

Oh, and I think "Big D" will release his first album.

1) Who is the half-blood prince? My vote is for Hagrid, and Dumbledore knew it all the time.

2) Who dies? Cho. Harry tries to save her but can't. Comparisons between her death and that of her boyfriend from Book 4 are unavoidable. Luna Lovegood starts to interest Harry.

3) Any other of the usual characters play a big role? Dudley pays an unwilling visit to Hogwarts to get a taste of his own medicine. The reader is actually left feeling sorry for Dudley, as he is tormented by Malfoy and his cronies. As he is about to be returned home, however, he gets revenge by kicking each of them in the crotch.

4) How many OWLs does Harry get? Not enough, but he gets some sort of special dispensation because of his heroic feats. Dumbledore bends the rules, as he has done in the past for at least one other well-known wizard.

I have the feeling that the answers to all these questions will be on the Net within 10 minutes of the first legitimate book sale.

Can you imagine the uproar in the bookstore when one of the early buyers flips through to the last few pages, calls up his (it would be a "his", no doubt) buddy, and shouts " It's Ron who dies at the end!!!" loud enough for everyone to hear.

Of course, the dumber thing about this is, if I am the friend on the other end of the phone, I don't want to know anyway.

"Why are you telling me this? I just told you to pick me up a copy while it's still on sale!"

This would work iff Dumbledore is the Minister of Magic. He can't make Harry an auror as Headmaster at Hogwarts.

My predictions, with just hours to go before the launch:

1) The HBP is Dean Thomas. JKR has said it's not Harry or Voldemort (nor Tom Riddle).

OR (less seriously) Aunt Petunia is really a witch and the HBP is Dudley!

2) Dumbledore dies but does an "Obi Wan" to help Harry later, either here or in Book 7.

3) Neville is becoming a good wizard, and could become a great one. Remember, he was using his father's old wand, and we all know from Book 1 that a wizard can't cast the best spells unless he has a wand that has chosen him. We will learn much more about Aunt Petunia (and Lily Potter). Luna and Ginny (along with Neville) also become kick-butt members of Harry's posse.

4) He gets all his OWLs except Divination. As mentioned above, he does fine in Potions because he felt much more relaxed without Snape hovering over him. If necessary, Dumbledore pulls the strings required to get him into Snape's NEWT-level Potions class. After all, the series just wouldn't be the same without that dynamic.

5) As for romances, Hermione and Ron will become an item in the Beatrice-Benedick (see Much Ado About Nothing) mould, while Harry is pursued by both Ginny and Luna. He is clueless enough not to realize how to handle the situation and alienates both of them romantically.

My vote would be for Hagrid as the half blood prince. We already know he is half giant. He would make an interesting prince.

One of the Weasley's to die. Maybe the parents, maybe Ron.

A good second possibility would be Snape. Snape is playing a dangerous game, whatever it is.

Harry to hook up with Ron's little sister Ginny. She had a crush on him in an early book and I don't think she's really over him. A diamond in the rough.

Since the book is now out these aren't much good as predictions anymore but, I'm off to read!

Finished in four hours, took a three hour nap about halfway through.

Where's the actual thread?

On the contrary, I am halfway through it (pacing myself) and came back here just to remind myself of what people were thinking initially.
