Giuliani Gets No Support From Son #1

Did Ron, Jr. write a "Mommy Dearest" type book? I occasionally listen to his radio show. Callers will phone in and say cute things about his dad like "We shared an elevator in Fresno and he asked how I was, and I really felt like he meant it."...etc. and Ron, Jr. will be quite gracious and say "Dad was a reall nice guy, just exactly like how he came across on TV."

I listened to his entire show on Presidents Day and he was very sentimental with nice childhood memories. But while he is very liberal, I do not know his "daddy issues" other than that there was some concern by his dad that, as he liked to dance and such, he might be gay. And he is not because he is married.;)
Ron Jr and Patty have both told that their father was distant was inatentive to their needs. They say that their mother was devoted to the father above all else, certainly above the children. I paraphrase tremendously, and almost certainly do their statements a disservice. I suggest you look into it more if you want better information.

I read book Dutch, by Edmund Morris. Reagan was a very interesting and complicated person. He was not the dopey cipher that G.W. Bush is, for instance, and if he wasn't senile for most of his presidency, he surely wouldn't have had the unfortunate reputation for poor intellect that he does now have.

Funny how you all left this out;
Myself, I didn't think it was vital to the thread topic. I'm sure you'll tell us why it's important though.

ETA: Re-reading the thread title, I can see why you said that. I think the thread title is a poor representation of the subject.

OK. Thanks. I guess I have heard that distant thing about President Reagan with his kids. I wonder if he was just driven professionally and focused on his career, like others who have achieved much, or just old-fashioned macho, as in "it is not manly to hug your kids or ask how they are feeling" kind of thing that was typical of that generation and, dare I say, Protestant, non-touchy-feely culture.

Why do you hate Protestants? :cool:

Yes, career-driven, as is obvious. But I wouldn't attribute anything to machismo. He had a very quirky personality, affecting his interpersonal relationships. This, anyway, is what I gather from the biography. I recommend that book a lot. I don't read many bios, but that is one of the best I've read (Dutch).

Thanks for the recommendation, hgc. Back when he was the president, and I was 20-28, I thought he was just a 2-dimentional father figure who wanted to blow up Russia. (Ironic that he was a sub-par father) I realize now that in certain circles he should be the sixth face on Mt. Rushmore, after Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, and Darth Rotor.

Back to the point on Giuliani. As a New Yorker who actually voted for him once, and then spent the next 8 years regretting it, I think that when the rest of America begins to know his finer qualities as exhibited during his reign here, many will turn away.

To call Michael Reagan conservative is like calling Rosie O'Donnel pleasantly plump. Maureen, rest in peace, another real one though, was a decent conservative.

ETA: Based on how they were treated by their parents (according to them), I don't think it's fair to call them spoiled.

So posing in Playboy was more of a Daddy, Dearest kind of thing, then? That makes some sense. Let's get back at the bastards who won't give me much money, or are too conseravtive for my taste, or both.

This, too, wouldn't surprise me. The one thing I've read by people who have met Reagan (or Clinton, or W for that matter) are that they are these marvelously personable people who can get you to like them 1 on 1 in a microsecond. Which makes sense -- imagine how the most skilled at sucking up to others would be to rise up in a nation of 300 million. What we nerds used to say were "running around with an 18 charisma".

If you have any inside track on why she posed for Playboy, then I'd like to know about it. Otherwise, you're imputing motives that you have no support for. Maybe she just wanted to show off her stuff.

Uh, that would be a good way to get an earthquake to happen to Mount Rushmore. Somethings, even Mother Nature won't stand for. ;)

Don't sell it short. You could have Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint scrambling around your face.
