George Michael dies

As for George Michael, it's certainly a shock when people younger than me are dropping dead from heart attacks. From what I've read about him, I'd be surprised if it's an overdose, but long-term effects of drug use in the past are certainly a possibility.

I don't think I'd call myself a fan, I've never owned any of his records, but I've enjoyed most of the songs of his that I've heard, with Wham! and solo, and he seems to have been a very kind and likeable man. The way he reacted after the soliciting incident, turning the enforced outing to his advantage, and satirising the affair with the video for Outside was admirable.

I just saw a news flash on facebook that Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards was reportedly found alive, but I haven't seen anything on the major news media to confirm.

A lot of people say George was a nice man...and he probably was. At least, I think so.

From what I've been reading on the Internet, George died of a heart attack....alone. Man, I hope he was not alone. No one needs to die alone like that. I hope there was someone near who loved him.

Nevertheless, it doesn't seem that George relied on others for validation. And if this is true, then I would like to dedicate this Hunter Thompson quote to George:

“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.”

Did they know once you said "The guitarist for the Eagles"?

They had heard of the Eagles, but didn't really know any of the songs.

I'm under 45 still and I know, as I suspect would anyone that is reasonably familiar with the Beetles.

For them, the "Beetles" <sic> are an oldies band. They know way more about Kanye or The Black Keys than they do about Paul McCartney. And that's as it should be.
