Gender-based stereotypes

Sorry, I didn't realise that Octavo was female.

Calling attention to sexism is sexist now.

Right.

Way to miss my point spectacularly, Octavo doesn't come in to this, my point was that you think that women that don't find the term 'fairer sex' offensive are part of the problem, who made you the arbitror of what is offensive to women? As a white male saying that women who aren't offended by the term are 'part of the problem' is pretty much you deciding what women should find offensive.

In other words you're not calling attention to sexism you're basically telling women what they should find offensive.

Octavo was the one I was responding to. Octavo was in to this from the very beginning.

You have no idea how or why I came to the conclusion that I did. You assume that I just made it up unilaterally.

It might be possible to be wronger, but you don't want to be even more wrong than you are.

Women's magazines are not based on what women want to read, they're based on what advertisers want to sell to women. Just look at the requirements only 'women's magazines' must obey for ads. Stories about certain subjects may not be placed next to certain ads, and over half the entire magazine is ads.

That's not entirely true, even if not completely wrong.

You still need readers and subscribers, and you need to find content that those want to consume.

As en editor, you need to balance the wishes of the readers with that of the advertiser. If you cater only to one side -- in particular, if your magazine is ad supported and you tend to cater too much to the advertisers -- your magazine is likely to fail (exception are special interest magazine that are wholly financed through subscription). It's one of the reasons magazines have been dying.
