For the naysayers-Germany sets solar power record

Somebody has to go first, and great that the Germans have the cash and incentive to do it now.
In other words, as I noted in #18, the German government may by helping out their own industries in the hopes of getting export sales.

But the Chinese undercut Solyndra, which was a major factor in their going broke. German production of PV would be no different, right? Hence the people in Germany have now been shafted to the tune of the investment loss based on replacement cost:

-$140 billion.

This is not "success". This is "fail".

how many billions have US taxpayers invested in their Ballistic Missile Defense System and how is that running?

That's a subject I would not discuss with you. It would fly right over your head. So go ahead and lose the current argument fair and square, please.

Better close the patent office, there's no reason to think innovation could possibly continue.

I'm sorry but I get your attitude here even less than MHaze's, "it's too expensive". Are you saying any R&D investment in solar power is a bad joke?

The patent office is a joke.

If it increases electricity prices to the public by 2.5-3X, it's way too expensive, whatever it is.

There's no argument there at all.

R & D investment is fine.

Switching a chunk of the country over to mandatory expensive electricity is not R & D.

R & D is testing on a small scale to perfect or improve.

Solar power remains an expensive joke, imo.

the people in Germany don't want Nuclear energy, so this is the price they will have to pay for it. and it seems they are willing to do so. i for my part am very happy the germans don't only think about the price, but also think about the climate we all have to share. i prefer them above dumb people that only think in short terms and only think about money.

Why is it supplying such a small % of their power then?

What a blight on the land as well.

What about the removal of solar radiation from the land surface? How does that affect the Earth? All of that land area is now blocked from receiving sunlight.

would you make the same arguments would they build factories there? factories also prevent sunlight from reaching the ground...

also there are also solar farms being installed on roofs of factories.

its like you are grasping at straws here.

Blocking sunlight from large tracts of land must be having an effect on the Earth and the climate. You can't get something for nothing.

is that impact more dangerous than the CO2 they released from burning coal?

Yes, because we are protecting you.

no you aren't.
btw, the Germans going green energy protects us far more than you ever could. they are protecting our melting glaciers for example.

Did they replace a factory, or did they replace a bio-diverse field of plants and animals and insects?

If it was a nice field that used to be warmed by the sun, what affect is blocking that sunlight having?

My own headquarters has gone totally solar with a heavy subsidy. The roof is covered with solar panels.

They could never have done it without the subsidy and the tax breaks.

But that is a private company that can do what it wants with it's money.

and the germans can do what they want with their money aslong they don't endanger other people with it.

and every way of creating energy has its cost. and compared to the cost the CO2 releasing energy generation has , the cost of solar energy is minimal.

Yes, the glaciers never melted before man arrived on this rock. They stayed the same all the time.

The Earth stayed at the same average temperature all the time until man started building fires. It never got warmer before, and it never got cooler.

Germany will come to it's senses sooner or later.

What's the point of not having nuclear reactors if you are surrounded by them anyway?

What about the Germans who want reasonably priced electricity? :D
