Firearms are for sporting and hunting

Damn, I just couldn't resist taking the bait, could I?

But I really do want to unpack the "armed revolt" question. Do you legitimately think that you might need to engage in armed revolt during your lifetime?

All I'm saying is that armed revolt is a legitimate purpose for a firearm.

Many countries used the idea of a levee en masse to avoid having to pay for a professional army (or for mercenary forces). It only works well if there is actual regulation involved (common calibres of small arms, enforcing actual training, tactical manuals that take into account the largely untrained nature of the force, etc.). The US and Canadian militias of this sort were a joke and more of a hindrance to the trained forces they fought beside.
In the late 1700's, though, when the newly-minted USA had zero money, this was about their only option for a national militia. And the day-to-day hunting weapons could indeed do double duty as fighting weapons. So the Second Amendment made a modicum of sense...then.

I repeat that the use of firearms in self defense, despite the near-religious convictions of some American firearm owners, is not even remotely necessary.

Georgia Mom Shoots Home Invader, Hiding With Her Children

The man allegedly broke into the house and rummaged around before making his way to the crawl space, where he found the mother and children hiding.

"The perpetrator opens that door, and of course at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver," said Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman to WSB-TV.

Melinda Herman shot the intruder five times, hitting him in the face and neck. Chapman said she told the man if he moved she would shoot him again, although she had run out of bullets.

While this list is lengthy, it does not include categories like pistols, which make up a large percentage of the guns in the U.S.

So it's completely *********** useless, then. Good to know.

I'll be in my bunk.

Who or what confers the legitimacy firearms for armed revolt?
Who or what confers the legitimacy of firearms for hunting or sport?

But apparently we're getting ahead of ourselves. If we don't even agree that there can be legitimate hunting, or sport, or revolution, then it's far too soon to discuss whether firearms are legitimate for those purposes.

I thought those questions were already settled, for you. Perhaps we can pick up the discussion of firearms again once you've settled them to your satisfaction.

Gun threads on this forum are like walking into the bathroom to find an unflushed toilet.

Not one of you have had anything useful to contribute to the worl'ds dialog about citizen-owned weapons, in this thread or any other.

I'm sorry your highness for not making enough forum posts that achieve high enough quality for someone of your stature and excellence.

When are we going to have a dedicated sub-forum for threads like this one.

The lawfulness of the activity confers legitimacy on the tools of that activity.

Because we accept that hunting, and target shooting are lawful activities we accept that the tools required to carry out those activities are also lawful.

It thought they were a substitute for Americans unwillingness to pay for law enforcement.

That would work if Americans were not paying a lot for law enforcement. Last I checked we do!!!!! (I assume you meant I rather than It)

If Trump is elected there is at least a small chance of that opens up for sure.

More possibly if Hillary is elected the Trump tools and fools might try one. Hopefully they will not survive en masse.
