Face, meet leopard. Leopard, meet face.

I don't think bringing up Harris helps much.

Even if Harris, like most other presidents, would have continued to deport illegal immigrants, there's an awfully big difference in how it's done. I don't think anyone would imagine Harris, or for that matter much of anyone but Trump, deploying armies of masked, armed and armored gunmen to terrorize neighborhoods, smash in doors, detain citizens, and make gleeful movies as they send their victims to death-camp prisons in El Salvador. Nor, for that matter, did Harris give any indication she'd oppose birthright citizenship (e.t.a. for some reason my fingers initially typed "marriage," which even in my miasma of leftwing wokeness I don't actually consider an equivalent birthright) or support retroactive deportation, and denaturalization for political dissent.

And of course, in the above case, she was not an illegal immigrant, and it's very unlikely that she'd have been detained for months and threatened with deportation over a couple of bad checks in any situation but the one her husband voted for. The idea that a lifelong permanent resident alien should be deported over a past misdemeanor is pure MAGA.

If you voted MAGA you voted for something different from prior practice, and even if some of how it has developed was a surprise, it should come as no surprise that when you voted for what was no surprise - anger, hatred, lies, recrimination and pure-blooded white supremacist xenophobia - you got it. A little twinge of sympathy, perhaps, for those who failed to read the fine print. But not a whole lot.

If someone told me that they would be deporting immigrants that had a criminal record, and I was married to an immigrant that had a criminal record then I wouldn't have been surprised if my spouse who had a criminal record was deported. Note I didn't say illegal immigrant.

(A crime that is categorised as a "misdemeanor" is still a crime.)

What if someone told her Harris would have deported illegal immigrants too?
Bringing up Harris and/or Biden brings up an interesting mental trap...

The republicans have been claiming "Biden let illegal immigrants in/democrats want open borders/etc." We know its a lie, but it played well with the MAGAchud base. But if someone told a Trump supporter "Oh, some friend/family member who is an illegal immigrant might get deported under Harris", their brain might melt, since "Harris would deport illegal immigrants" conflicts with the "open borders" claim.

I agree with the main thrust, but I actually don't think their brains would melt. That assumes they suffer from cognitive dissonance, but they have already shown they can believe contradictory things in every other aspect of their life without it giving them pause.

For that crowd, beliefs are transactional rather than logical. Their only real consistency is believing whatever their leaders tell them to believe in order to win the current conversation. It is pure doublethink. They can view Harris as "borderless" while simultaneously seeing her as a "deportation threat" because those ideas exist in a vacuum. As long as the narrative serves the tribe in the moment, the contradiction never has to be reconciled.

Hell, I think T is STILL trying to match Obama's deportation total (yes, five years so far vs eight).
I'm sure Harris would have been okay with some close variant of O's policies.

But I doubt the housewife with her far in the past "crime spree" would have had much to worry about.

They should have used their brains and looked at the example of history. The monster is perfectly happy to trample its own.
I agree. But some people just don't think as is obvious from them re-electing a sexual predator, convicted felon, malignant narcissist, pathological liar who tried to overturn a legal election with the maturity of a toddler.

A 45-year-old Texas man was arrested Tuesday on assault charges after getting into a physical altercation with a student who participated in an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement walkout protest, police said.
Earlier this week, students at Moe and Gene Johnson High School, located in Buda, Texas, walked out of classes in protest of the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement.
While the protest was largely peaceful, a verbal altercation between an adult man in a vehicle and a female juvenile on the sidewalk escalated into physical violence, according to video of the incident posted online, shared by CBS Austin."

Yeah, it should be appreciated how brave those teens were.
In Texas, I would have expected that ◊◊◊◊◊◊◊ to be armed or have a couple of guns in his car.
