What can produce a popping sound combined with a sensation of heat in your eye?

Because I have no clue. I saw no bright flashes though. Is this like a retinal-detatchment though?

No. Sounds like eye cancer. Always fatal, generally in a matter of a few hours.

Symptoms of a detached retina include flashing lights, floaters, and a "dark curtain" that falls across your vision--but nothing like a "popping sensation" and a feeling of heat.

I strongly suggest that if this happened to you today, that tomorrow morning first thing you make a fast appointment with an opthamologist.

Note: Not an optometrist or an optician. An opthamologist.

One of the notable features of a detaching retina is that you don't feel it happening.

One of the notable features of a hypochondriac is that you assume every twinge you feel is something catastrophic happening. Go and swallow two homeopathic copper magnets in a glass of declustered water. You'll feel much better.

I went for an eye exam the other day, and to my surprise, the guy told me, "I think your vision is going to get better and better as you get older". So I asked him, "Are you an opthamologist, or an optometrist, or what?"

Turns out he was an optimist.

I'd been suffering that myself recently, but remedied it by not using the microwave oven to warm up my head in the mornings anymore.

I'm going to go with "delusion", Alex.

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Be sure to tip your waitresses. Try the veal!

Just as an aside, it's ophthalmologist. The etymology is slightly different from the other two words.

Greek ophthalmos= eye

Greek optos =seen, from op-, stem of opsomai I shall see.

But you know in ER when they call for an "OPtho consult" they're getting the spelling wrong in their heads.

Properly, Greek etymologies are given using the infinitive rather than the future tense, but I have bigger fish to fry.

Remember what the Bible says about what to do when your eye offends you? Pluck that MFer out. G'wan, pluck it!!!
