Er, maybe this logo needs redesigning...

I like the way that the law banning hitler salutes and goose stepping in Germany (which was designed to stop Germans from being nazis) is now to be used against English soccer fans (who simply want to remind the Germans that they were nazis).

But maybe I am just a reactionary because I saw Hitler in the soccer ball before I read the op.

I saw it pretty quickly, but I had just finished watching a documentary about Hitler less than an hour ago.

"There were ten German bombers in the sky"...

Me too :)

The "H" in the "History Channel"'s logo should really stand for something else, given the number of WWII documentaries they make.

And they keep using the same stock footage, too: I swear I've seen the same guns firing in documentaries dealing with battles everywhere from the arctic circle to the tropics.

It reminds me of the time when a Danish bank introduced its own mascot before the world soccer championships, a soccer-playing squirrel named Gunnar! Their slogan was: "Come to us and have a Gunnar!" (Kom ind til os og få en Gunnar!)
It was rather unfortunate that they didn't know that "a Gunnar" in the vernacular meant "the clap", gonorrhoea!

Actually I don't understand why second world war is THAT interesting. It ended 60 years ago, and looking at some of the channels dealing with history you might think that that is the only event that has ever happened.

Shortly after the wall was torn down I visited the Soviet Union, and I was amazed that the were so occupied with WWII. It seemed so overdone. It was like the only thing they could agree on as an important event was that particular war. Maybe the inspiration to the historical channels comes from there :D

Oh - by the way, I didn't see the "Hitler-in-a-ball" looking at the official logo from Germany. I agree that if you want it to be Hitler, then it's possible to see it, but then again - you can see anything in a cloud..... it's all in the eye of the beholder ;)

English soccer fans (who simply want to remind the Germans that they were nazis).
Which, of course, is just innocent, good fun. A simple reminder in case they didn't know what some of their great-great-grandfathers were up to ...

Two world wars and one World Cup, doodah, doodah.

What? They want to be a nation of sore losers as well?

.
</p>Beceasue there is no connection whatsoever between a certian subset of English football fans and far right politics...

Put me on the "eh, looks like Hilter" list.

Filling in the pentagon makes it look like a guy going "OOOOOH". The mouth becomes a big chin.

Well, they had 15-20 million dead during that war. Can't really blame them for being preoccupied with it.

And given Russia's/Soviet Union's history in the 20th century, fighting Hitler seems to be one of the few things they could brag about (even though they were perfectly happy to be on his side while he carved up Europe).

That is the ugliest logo I've ever seen. Hitler or no. Just plain ugly. Even the colors suck.

Yeah, but most of those were killed by Stalin, rather than the Nazis.
Do you think all the Soviet dead in WWII were victims of Stalin? I mean, sure Stalin was responsible for plenty of dead, but you might want to make note that Germany invade the country and many millions died as a result.

The talent for designing ugly stuff is one of the things we Germans are justly proud of.;)

Yes, many were killed in combat; but while the Germans were invading, Stalin was also busy killing his own troops as well. Executing retreating soldiers, or sending them off to labour camps and gulags; starving front lines troops, sending troups into situations that they clearly had no chance of surviving; withholding supplies needed by front-line troops in order to keep his personal guard well supplied and armed; engaging in purges the ranks (particularly officers) of "traitors" and "undesirables", particularly in the Ukraine; etc. When Germany surrendered, most of the returning POWs were either executed outright or sent to gulags as spies/collaborators. It's estimated that Stalin, directly or indirectly, caused the deaths of more Soviet troops than Hitler did.

Yeah, I saw the likeness to Hitler straight away, but then I had just been reading an article about how the german police had agreed that english football fans were not going to be allowed to bring inflatable spitfire planes to the games. The welsh didn't seem to mind english fans bringing inflatable sheep to their last game.
