Environmental Mega-disaster within 100 years

The idea that the problems of the world can be solved by somehow "removing" a percentage X of the total population show an astonishing lack of grasp of the power of exponential growth.
If tomorrow we turned half of all humans on earth into Solyent, we would be exactly were we are today in about 2060, given normal birthrates.

Well obviously my plan involves 2-child limits and colonisation of other planets!

Why would we need to when the population is set to level off at about 9billion (ish)?

We don't even need to implement limits on how many kids people have (like China did).

So do I. That's not the point. My argument is that if you want to reach the average person, then you aren't going to do that by reporting these same kinds of alarmist stories in the

The science isn’t alarmist it’s alarming. My point is that putting your fingers in your ears and screaming that it’s all to scary for you and that you can only believe happy stories doesn’t change the science one bit.
I'm not scared.
You are terrified. Fear is what drives conservative tendencies in the first place. The question isn’t whether you are afraid, it’s whether you are rational, and refusing the evidence and complaining that you want a happy story instead suggests you are not.
it isn't likely to affect me, my kids or even my kid's kids very much

Even setting aside the sociopathic nature of claiming the parts of humanity they don’t know personally this is too short to avoid personal connections. How can simply dismiss the fact that your grandchildren won’t be able to see their own families grow up health and happy is beyond me.

Wait a minute! Are you telling us that you subjected this planet to more carbon-emitting offspring even unto two generations?

And what if we're correct about everything? Then you've just made your problems worse.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Sorry, I don't have an actual comment. I was just laughing so hard, I actually projected it onto the screen with my mind.

I'm pretty sure there are too many people, making too many messes, and not giving any of it nearly enough thought. But the ridiculousness of believing I have enough information and prestige to be an arbiter of just who those baddies are is... well -

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAAAAAAAAA

Oh man. I really feel sorry for you, dude.

ETA - There's a quote I bet you know that seems a bit relevant here. Something about specks and planks... Oh, what was it, again? No matter. I shouldn't be able to read or vote anyway. Tee-hee! Off to the kitchen to make a pie and dream about having (Yankee) babies. Scores of the little ****ers!
