And all you had to do to get those wonderfully cheap eggs was brave exposure to a contagious virus that was spreading like wildfire and killing thousands of people a day. Good times.
The highest price during Trump's administration was 2.081/dozen in April 2018, so the $1.466 is not some artificially low number. However, I do get that the current price is high for a valid reason (avian flu) that is very hard to blame on Biden (and impossible to blame on Harris). Chill out on assuming I am tracking this to make Trump look good; I suspect the national average price is going to be worse this month; the last I checked Kroger (my local) was selling a dozen eggs for $6.49.

Fair enough, but I think if we’re going to mention how much eggs cost in 2020 compared to 2024, circumstantial context is relevant.

Soon eggs will be more expensive than vegan egg replacer. And that's when Phase II of The Project kicks in.

The current situation is pretty much circumstantial but the 2020 price really wasn't something unusual. However it is notable that prices had pretty much recovered to around $2.00 a dozen in mid 2023--look at the graph--before the most recent climb.

I don't bake so I can wait months to make my quiche. It has no crust.
I do bake, but always buy organic free range eggs, which are always a bit more expensive, because of that. The yolk sacs seem a lot stronger, making it easier to separate the yolks from the whites. when necessary, without the sac breaking.

That is exactly the blinkered view of Trump an his minions. They have no concept of how much events outside of their own country actually affect them. The isolationism they crave, and will likely get, will quickly prove to not work in their favor.
Isolationism has been tried. It did not work.
You can wall yourself in, you cannot wall the world out.
I am not so sure they will get their Isolationsi, though. US does too much business overseas.
And it is not like isolatonsim is exclusive on the right. You have number on the left also.

Anyway, I think that a US President, or any other head of government is limited in the impact they can have on the world economy. It it too complex to be controlled. That is why I am not a big fan of a "Command Economy:.

It is no surprise that maga weirdos have any concept of the bird flu and it's effect on hen stocks, and the inablity of any govt entity to do anything to amelioate it. What is baffling is their inability to shop smart and buy eggs on sale; I've never paid over $3.00 a dozen since the start of this mess, which makes me believe that maga weirdos are either lying, or willfully stupid.
False dichtomy, they can be both.

I don't even like eggs. I certainly don't think they should be the precipatory cause of the collapse of what had been one of Earth's mightiest nations, but here we go anyway. Now I know how the Nome King felt.

Eggs are an ingredient in almost every baked product you can imagine.
