Dragons Are Not Extinct

I love sea serpents. That said, a lot of the photos are of what has been recently identified as whale skin (IIRC). There were a number of stories in the news a few months back that showed the extant specimens shared some sort of whaley skin collogin or something.

Hope springs eternal.

I particularly liked the almost (but unfortunately not quite) relevant Richard Dawkins quote on their home page.

My favorite is when they compare a picture of a clearly rotting (for days) carcass, for example, with a live shark, and then say see! they look nothing alike!!

Saw a human corpse once, in Lake Victoria. He had been in the water weeks or months. Various predators had had bits and he had probably been hit by a prop as well.

Not only was he not a pretty sight (or smell) but he (sex assigned at random) was only identified as human after medical inspectionm, despite being essentially intact.

Now if you can't reliably look at a floating corpse and say it's human, it's unlikely to be any easier with other species / genera / taxons.

That said, I have no doubt there are creatures in thedeep we know little or nothing about. It's a big place. No way do I buy a pterosaur alive today though. Too visible, too recognisable, too outcompeted too long ago.

Look about two-thirds of the way down the page, on the right. "An Unknown Armour-Plated Fish".
"And this is some kind of prehistoric armour plated fish that also should have been dead for hundreds of millions of years! This mysterious giant fish washes up on a beach in St. Petersburg, Florida
It wasn't the usual trash/deadwood/fish kind of thing at all; in fact, no one was sure what it was at all. It looked like a prehistoric armor plated fish. It was white & about 5 feet in length. It had a sucker for a mouth and rows upon rows of bony yellow plates that seem to be some sort of cartilage. On the backside, it appeared to have some kind of armor covering it completely.
Of course the mainstream media never reported it, nor did scientist rush down to examine yet another threat to Evilutionary Theory. They probably let it rot and wash away in the sea, as they normally do, when they can't explain it away as driftwood or a sea lion! "

Wow! Or not. It's a bloody sturgeon! Where the caviar comes from, for dog's sake. Look at the link below. There's no mystery about this fish. It's been identified. Clearly the authors of this site a) have very little knowledge of fish, or b) couldn't be bothered, or c) know what it is and are lying.
Take your pick.

Maybe you should report them to the Sturgeon General.

Nah - you're a figment of our collective imagination! :p ;)

Annoy not the dragons, for you are small and yummy with ketchup.

From license plate seen this weekend.

Actually, come to think of it, I believe there was an article in a past Newsweek discussing Mitchell's publicity stunt.

Or at least coelecanth have the courtesy to look embarrassed.

Can anyone prove to me that this is NOT intended to be funny? Personally, I can't tell any more, I just can't bloody tell, whether any given fundie website is

(1) For real
(2) A deliberate joke
(3) Funded by the International Atheist Conspiracy

However, on this one I'm leaning towards option 2.

Even in the case of 2, there are sure to be those who will take it all quite seriously.

Oh, don't I know it. Here are some choice postings about evolution from ONE MONTH --- August 2003 --- as collected on the website http://winace.andkon.com

"Actually if a human next to a dinosaur enveloped in ice was ever found, it probably would disapear and never reach the public eye. Do you how much evidence has been destroyed and taken by the government and evolutionists."
- messenjaH, EvC Forum

I have read testimonies by creationists (not Hovind) that say they found evidence that would null evolution, but that evidence was either stolen, taken away by government or the owners of the property where the evidence was found or the owners were forced to dispose of the evidence."
- messenjaH, EvC Forum

"You see, the Smithsonian is responsible for hiding a lot of evidence that goes against evolution, so I've heard."
- booboocruise, EvC Forum

"Dinosaurus lived less then 6000 year... if they lived at all. i happen to be a christian that thinks that living dinosaurs never existed"
- holes_flow, Yahoo! News Message Boards

Ibelieve the earth is roughly 7000-10,000 yers old...now i believe increation therefore God created the universe with the APPEARANCE of age and not actual age. "
- holes_flow, Yahoo! News Message Boards

"Also go to www.google.com search engine and type 'evolution' and you will get plenty of stuff from very educated, intelligent scientists who believe your uncle was a gorilla. Good luck"
- KJsole, Theology Forums

"Scientists still have no answers. They have 'ideas' and 'thesis', but no one has any cold, hard facts to present. So IMO, the scientists have just as much of a shot at being right as the 'religious fanatics who spread irrational paranoia'."
- Lola, ChristianForums

"Actually, what they have is a bunch of different skeltons that they have found. In a lot of cases they do not know if it is a man or a monkey. There are times when half the so called experts will say it is a monkey or an ape, the other half will say they think it is a man."
- JohnR7, ChristianForums

"Creation Science is not supposed to be 'intellectually honest' because it is not based on fallible human intellect. God is above and beyond logic and reason."
- dayton, ChristianForums

"it is completely absurd to to think that a single cell, by chance can turn into a complex organism such as a human being... how likely is that really? it is so absurd. that anyone could ever believe that"
- serendipity79, ChristianForums

"Also keep in mind that when there are explosions, light and debris travel faster than they normally do."
- mosspier, JCSM Forums

"There is more evidence for creation. The people proposing the theories for creation are more trustworthy than the people proposing evolutionary theories. T[heory]o[f]E[volution] is untenable. The theory isn't based in scientific proof. It is based on guesses from biased people."
- Jason G, JCSM Forums

"Although Evolutionists will tell you with a straight face that an elephant mated with a mouse and a bald eagle was born, there has never been a case of different animals mating with each other, despite the fact of millions upon millions of different species."
- KJsole, Theology Forums

"I've heard that evolution is still going on but yet no one can explain why humans have stopped evolving from animals."
- prince didymus, ChristianForums

"If God wants to create birds with [deactivated genes for reptilian] teeth it is His choice I am sure. If you want to know how old the earth is, do the geneology in Genesis. It really is not hard to do."
- goodseedhomeschool, ChristianForums

"I've listened to many messages and debates by Kent Hovind. He's a crusader of truth regarding the way evolution is a religion for the anti-God establishment."
- Rebornempowered, RaptureReady

As for Occam's Razor, it 'proves' creation, being the simpler explanation. Huh? God created the world. Four words. Life evolved from carbon by pure chance. Seven words."
- Aqua_Raptor, BlizzForums

"dinosaurs are nothing more than BIG lizards. Did you know that most reptiles NEVER stop growing? They continue to grow up until they die... Dinosaurs were (and still are) around with man until they stopped growing so big due to the probable change in environment post-flood (as seen by the decreasing life spans of man)."
- SOLIDROCK, Christianity.com Forums

"Also Dinosaurs didn't disappear. Thier are still some left hear on the earth and probaly some in the United States too."
- dennis580, Christianity.com Forums

"Maybe God told other men to build similar arks around the world and contain all of the local wildlife on many arks rather than every animal on the Earth on one ark."
- Aqua_Raptor, BlizzForums

"A priori reasoning isn't empirical either, but it does tell me that something cannot come from nothing. So on that, it it hard for me to think that Darwinian evolution is true."
- dale_fincher, Christianity.com Forums

"And yes you are right, I don't know enough yet. I have a good start, but no, I don't know enought yet to wage all out war on evolution. That's why I said I'd be back. I'm going to learn more, research more, read more, write more, shread the paper apart myself, re-write, reinforce and then do it all over again until I have a case good enough to stump you. You want to know how hard this Imperial Smackdown will be? If I can do all I set out to do, it's going to rock the very foundations of Darwin's theory. Creation is the true story, I know that, and I know because it is true, there is proof for it, I just need to find that proof, and I fully intent to."
- 1SuprJesusFreak, Kyle Givler Teens' Board

"I 'know' [the Bible is true] because I am here and I am living. There is no way in heck something as complex as a human was created by a big bang (no one knows were the matter for that came from), Abiogenesis (big deal, they made amino acids), and random mutations (which are 99.9% of the time harmful). Go to AnwersInGenesis.org. They are the leading Creationist scientists and their site is full of evidance."

Creationism, like post-modernism, is one of those intellectual movements which satirises itself much better than anyone else could. A month or so ago, I dreamed up some "creationist" ideas of my own. The idea was to see just how much BS they would swallow if they think it's on their side. Yes, you've guessed the punchline. Everything I thought up, no matter how stupid, is ALREADY creationist dogma. Every darn thing I dreamed up OUT OF IDLE CURIOUSITY, TO SEE HOW DUMB THEY REALLY WERE... what can I say?
