1. Welcome to the forums!
2. Nice collection of bottles. I have several similar
3. at the top of this page, click "search" and search for "dowsing" and for "ideomotor"

I think someones been dowsing on an old bottle dump.

Just a guess.

Submit your claim to a proper test. I would like to recommend that you read this wonderful dowsing test procedure IIG Dowsing test and its test protocol to get an idea of what you might have to expect from a test of your dowsing claim.

I advise you to read up on the ideomotor effect, just do a web search and you'll find plenty on the subject.

I do encourage you to investigate your claim, but I am highly unconvinced of dowsing but would welcome any evidence to prove otherwise. If you could truly dowse, that would be wonderful. But you need to prove it first. Note that if one had a true dowsing ability, the tests that are set up for dowsers should be very easy to pass.

Also, here is an article describing one of my all-time favorite Randi's tests. There is somewhere a video clip where Randi describes this experiment, if someone knows where to find it please do post it here! It's a favorite. ;)

It's your imagination, confirmation bias, and self-delusion all working together to produce... a bunch of old bottles you dug up from the ground.

Here are the video clips about the dowsers. Pretty informative, covers the test itself and Randi's explanation of how dowsing is done.

Finding underground water is in itself not particularly unusual --- without claiming any dowsing abilities, of course. Underground aquifers are even used as a source for community water supplies over conventional water reservoirs. (Note their enormous area coverage.) I am curious, though ... just what exactly gives you the impression of having this ability over someone just doing normal, conventional digging? There are vast amounts of items dug up all the time and residential water wells drilled routinely by those who make no such claim.

Most land areas on Earth have some form of aquifer underlying them ...

Any chance you would be willing to submit to testing this under controlled conditions?

2009/09/12 the year should be 9 not 2009.

Not another dower, just makes one wonder how some people think the universe works. :o

My uncle is in the water well drilling biz. He told me many well drillers still dowse. For a fee they will add this to their service since you'll have to pay, dry hole or gusher.

He told me that he walks around with his rods for a while (in front of the owner of course) and eventually the rods cross, coincidentally right where the drilling rig has the best access. PRAISE BE! Then he winked at me.

So John, tell us what you think is happening when you dowse.
Most dowsers will claim that they find water by detecting some kind of field of energy.
Even if that would apply to flowing water how would a bottle have an energy field?

Welcome john glassman,

It's great that you have found dowsing to be fun and profitable. Your bottle collection is beautiful, but I don't know how much it's worth. Obviously you enjoy the bottle collection and that's all that matters when it comes to value.

But if your dowsing skills really work, there's a LOT of money to be made. The JREF has a million dollar prize if you can prove that you can dowse. The IIG offers a $50K prize, and they don't require as many pre-requisites as the JREF. If I could do it, I'd apply for one of these prizes. Even if I were already rich, I'd still probably want a million dollars more, if only to give it to the charity of my choice.

Good luck,
Ward
