I am putting this here in General Skepticism instead of TV because it's not about a specific show, but rather a network of channels that could use a lot of skeptical input. Especially given the woo they regularly air...

There is a thing called the Discovery Channel Influencer Panel. Basicall you get to watch small clips of shows, and leave your opinion about them. In some cases, it's just the standard 30 second advert, and you answer if you plan to watch the show, and if you would recommend the show. Other times, you get a clip that is a few minutes in lenth, and a series of follow up questions, with space to write more about the clip you saw. I generally take that opportunity to tell them exactly what I think of their programming...

As part of the Influencer Panel you will be one of an elite group of panelists nationwide that is helping Discovery Communications craft the future of television. You’ll be among the first to get sneak peeks of our new programming and your input will be used to determine which shows stand out. In addition, every time you complete one of our questionnaires your name will be entered in a monthly drawing for a chance to win a surprise gift or one of three $50 prizes!

If anyone is interested in getting an invite to this panel, please PM me your email, and I'll put it into the hat (they are running some sort of recruit a freind campaign). My interest in this is NOT the lame prize they are offering, but rather to get people concerned with the spread of woo to attempt to stem that flow. If I should win the prize (I don't even know what it is), I'll donate it to a school or something.

Thank you to the folks that have sent me a PM so far. I have entered your emails into the system. Hopefully you will get an email soon.

So the latest survey was for people's impressions on an advert for a "Finding Bigfoot" show talking about having "evidence" and DNA... That they would even consider airing this just made me cringe, and I let them know in no ucertian terms that what they mean by evidence is not at all what the word actually means if the show even hints that there is any such thing for bigfoot...

Hopefully more people will let them know that their showing crap on TV and are only a shell of what they used to be.

Between here, RatSkep, Facebook, and Google+ I have submitted quite a few email addresses. That said, I have sent in all the ones I received via PM here. Check spam folders maybe? It may appear to come from Discovery, or maybe me (since I have to enter my name and email each time I submit). I can resubmit if you want me to.

Please do. I've not received anything, either.

Before I submit emails again, I have a help ticket in with the Discovery Channel folks to see if maybe they are batch processing or what the case may be. I'll keep you informed.

I got a reply. Let me know if you get an email later this week:

Dear Larian,

We apologize for the delayed response to your referrals. Your submissions have been received and processed. The individuals you referred will receive an email invitation later this week. Thank you for your patience.

Best,

Your Friends at the Influencer Panel

I don't know if you did, but putting this post in tv section also might be a good thing.
Interesting, and a good way to get your opinion across, other than on forums where they are promptly deleted if theyre negative!

I didn't post it in the TV forum specifically because this forum seems much more active, and I saw this as an opportunity to promote skepticism activelly with the Discovery panel (given their descent into credulous programming). Thanks for the suggestion though. Maybe I can cross post a linbk to this thread there? Not sure how the mods would feel about that.

I got the survey email yesterday, so whatever you did worked. Now I think I have to wait for them to decide if they really want me. In the meantime I have access to the website, though I have not logged on yet.

Well, I received the invite. I clicked the link to register and the page says that I had already completed this step.

I've sent an e-mail describing the problem.

I'm assuming that a person in such a panel would have to watch the Discovery Channel?

I rarely watch any of the channels they own, but I give feedback on what they let me give feedback on. Perhaps you could say you used to watch before they turned to crap? :D

I don't think I have had cable long enough to be able to say that I have watched any of the channels they own. I know I have watched programs (maybe online, maybe acquired otherwise, maybe re-broadcast on a different network, maybe during the very brief time I had cable access, maybe at other people's homes) but I can hardly say that I watch or have watched on a regular basis.
