If it is a truther, than I am not surprised.

If it is Greening, I am disappointed.

Either way, I will taking all further comment with a grain of salt.

False. People come to believe 9/11 foolishness by reading public bunk. I get emails every week from people whose minds were changed because they read public debunkings. Several members of this subforum were truthers and now are not, because they read and considered the evidence that isn't found on truther websites.
 
you can debate them, but I don't think anyone wins the debates.

The mistake, is in thinking that we debate solely to win. If that were the case, i would have given up long ago.

Now I debate to expose the lunacy to those who have been subjected to it under the cover of "just asking questions".

Have we slipped from relevant debate into irrelevant philosophy so soon? I very much doubt we will change the minds of people like Killtown, but the neutral observer who is curious about the events will hopefully be swayed by the quality of rational debate and factual evidence and will be forced to think critically about the events rather than mindlessly blaming the government.

I apologise for the length of that sentence!

Many years ago I believed a lot of malarky about esp. I read a few good debunkings, some by Randi himself, IIRC, they had an effect. Consciously I opposed them but in time they helped turn me. This experience left me a believer in the power of high quality debunking. I actually think it works.
 
MILLIONS of people have followed the path of:

1. Sees Loose Change, thinks, "Wow! That's weird!"

2. Googles for more info

3. Finds these forums or Screw Loose Change or another similar site

4. Browses the discussions, realizes how crazy the conspiracy theory is, moves on.


The debates aren't for the ones being debated; they can't admit they're wrong and lose face after they came on so agressively. No, the debates are for the lurkers. The ones trying to educate themselves, the ones "looking into it" for the first time.

At the end of the day, the only ones left in the Truther camp appears to be only angry teeangers and lifelong conspiracy buffs. That's no accident. It's because the normal people have found places like this.

Some people read books, and listen. And don't just hang out at the Hannitized JREF forum. There's a world of knowledge out there. Check it out.

I went to a Truther conference a couple weeks ago; there was one teenager there. The rest were 30s, 40s, even 70s.

(A couple of them I talked to don't even live in the mom's basement!)
