Have a site down because the Comcast Business Modem won't power on.

After spending 2 hours on hold and then over an hour going down the checklist:

Me: "It won't power on."
Comcast: "Have you tried restarting it?"
Me: "It won't power on."
Comcast: "Do you see any activities lights?"
Me: "It won't power on."
Comcast: "Unplug it from the wall, wait 10 seconds..."
Me: "IT... WON'T... POWER... ON."

I got an appointment for a tech to show up between 10 and 12 today. It's almost 4. I've been on hold since 2, and their chat window literally has "Thank you for your continued patience, we will be with you momentarily." repeated 49 times (I counted.)

I think I know what accounts for this--the helper on the phone isn't actually an idiot. At that level what they are is an operator following a script, rather than a computer technician. They are likely not allowed to adapt the script according to the responses and common sense--only to ask each required question, check off whether it worked and move on to the next step, in order to dispense with as many calls as possible before sending it to an actual tech.

This week and last seem to be some kind of special stupid at my work. People asking idiotic questions, people suggesting ridiculous things. I just had to explain to someone who should definitely know better that no, it would not be a good idea to "just change the data" in that particular place; yes, it would make processing it so much easier, but it would also constitute fraud. And Medicare, for some odd reason, is really not that happy when people commit fraud against it. Crazy, I know, but let's just humor them and leave the data as it actually is instead of changing it to something easier for one downstream pile of nobodies. When I eventually go to prison it'll be for murdering idiots who request stupid things, not for fulfilling their stupidly criminal requests, thanks.

On one project I had a well developed plan to exterminate almost the entire population of a company's Head Office building, right down to sourcing the BTX. Describing this in detail to my boss got me reassigned elsewhere....
