David Hackworth passes

true grit

"At 40 he became the youngest full colonel in Vietnam, where he served for nearly six years. He won some 80 medals in his career, including two Distinguished Service Crosses, 10 Silver Stars and eight Purple Hearts.

His unsparing criticism of tactics and doctrine continued throughout his 25-year career."

First time I have ever heard of Mr Hackworth, and I am grateful for LTC8K6 for calling attention to his legacy.

IMO, the President of the USA would be better served by having a few good men like that as advisors in this current 'war'.

I always enjoyed the Colonel's commentary on the war in Iraq and his critique of the strategy (or lack of) in dealing with it. I, too, was surprised to learn he was 74.

What a truly great loss...:(
