Darwin shooting

Wake up call. Gun ownership has been increasing in Australia in recent years, and some of the troglodytes in the Morrison government want to ease gun control laws. This must be resisted.

Mind you, Darwin is known as the “broken jaw capital of the world”.

Royal Darwin Hospital surgeon Mahiban Thomas says he was given a "rude shock" when he arrived in Darwin five years ago.

Dr Thomas says the hospital sees about 350 cases of broken jaws and noses every year.

"(This) puts us at about 17 per 10,000 population, which is well above anywhere else in the world," he said

It’s the only major town in Australia I’ve never visited, and never planned to.

Still a tragic story that I await further information of.

Is this the second mass shooting in Australia since Port Arthur? I think there was a man who shot his family a few years back.

How did he even get access to a firearm since he had only been out of jail a short time?

Lived in Darwin for a couple of years, back in the early 70's. Despite the more recent holiday destination vibe, it is still a frontier city. Plenty of guns in Darwin - there's always work for croc-shooters, buffalo-hunters, etc.

Yeah, broken jaws. When we were there, one pub was notorious for the Friday and Saturday night brawls where they duelled it out with swinging garden spades at head-height. Sideways.
