CSI,COP Out

Not that I know of - I've found jinx fairly universal across the US. I've heard it from those in California as well as New Yorkers. Same with penny heads up, all the day you'll have good luck. Playing "Jinx!" is more a child's game than a superstition.

Edit: Here are two regional superstitions from NC (not to be confused with SC, as that is another place) - Eat collard greens on New Years Day for good luck. Don't do laundry on New Years Day or a family member will die in the coming year.

Never heard the jinx thing where I grew up in CT. And the thing about laundry would work with a huge family and confirmation bias.

Tobias,
Actually. I was not wrong, since I was only referring to the B5 writers.
i'm sorry, but you are.

Congratulations. I was wondering when anyone was going to hit on the CSICOP reference. I was looking for a good name for the pit bulls of the Psi Corps, and thought it made for a great play on words, and a very obscure almost-pun, to name them Psi-Cops.

well?

ETA: That was the first episode with the Psi Corp.. and JMS had written the bible including the psi corpse before hand anyways.

Oh - how - stupid. They were bothered by a confusion with an old and very good sci fi show that is no longer on the air, so they chose something that will confuse them with a very lame current cop show with way too many spin offs???????????

"The avalanche has started, it is too late for the pebbles to vote"

*sigh*

I have no idea who JMS is and it was the Psi Corps not Corpse, anyway. Like the "Marine Corpse"?
And it's beforehand.
And that quote was just too long to digest.

Tenser says the Censor.
Censor says the tensor.
Tension, apprehension and dissention have begun.

I was jesting. Sorry, but I thought people wouldn't take it seriously.

Was Jeff joking? There's no mention of B5 on the csicop web site. And now we're stuck with a thread about Babylon 5!

Interesting that they should drop the "scientific investigation" bit from their name. I can imagine a bunch of pro-psi blog writers making a great deal about that.

JMS is the creater of the show. And the writer of the initial episode features the psi corps.

And if you can't digest the quote then just accept it when i say it is JMS saying the psi corp is a direct reference(on purpose) to csicop. And he should know since he is the auther of the show, the bible, and the episode in question.

There is a New Year's Day tradition here in LA among Mexicans. At the stroke of midnight, you must act out whatever it is you want to come true that year. Grab money in both fists, snog your woman, etc.

Jinx - we use that term in Australia - always immune to the effects if you say "white rabbit" !!

No, no, no. You have to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for good luck.

Jeez, no wonder your state is f***ed up.

Humph! That's Texas for you. Go for pennies when you can have dollars in the New Year! :D

I like Hoppin' John better than plain black eyed peas.
