Computer blue screening

About one week ago, my laptop power supply went, and I bought a generic
one as a replacement (the kind where you buy the supply and then a connector that corresponds to the model of your computer). Soon after, the computer started getting blue screens with this error code:

0X00000008e

This corresponds to a processor error.

I am not sure whether it is a loose motherboard connection, or whethter the processor is overheating (due to the wrong power supply, or a loose heatsink).

Some of the other symptoms (the computer works longer when it is on a desk then when it is used as a laptop) look like it is a heat problem, but could this be related to the power supply?

That STOP code can also be caused by faulty memory. Perhaps you were careless with your anti-static precautions when you swapped the power supply and zapped a chip. Or there's a problem with your new power supply and it's zapping the RAM.

After my little escapade with RAM stick probs giving me all kindsa different error codes (Loads of non RAM related codes)...that would be the first thing i'd look at...

I pulled both sticks out...run the PC on one of them...when it crashed repeatedly, i pulled the stick out and tried the other one...I have had no problems since...

Why did the original power supply go? Whatever caused that to go (power surge, etc.) could have damaged your motherboard or memory. Or the power supply itself could have surged when it blew. Not only check the voltage, but check the amps and watts as well on the generic power supply you got. Make sure they are the same as the one you lost. Also take the advice from above posters and pull memory to see if that's the cause.

Just some tips. I have a blue-screening laptop on my desk right now that was brought in for repair. Turned out to be a failing hard drive, but of course, the blue screen errors were different from yours.
