Comic strip TAM

send me a bad astronomy story, and you can star in your own strip...!

You know, I suspect that with all the talented, creative minds that we have on this forum, we could construct a fantastic new Bad Astronomy story... maybe even one unencumbered by events that actually took place. You people follow my drift?

With that in mind, allow me to get thing thing started:

One day, the Bad Astronomer opened his newspaper and was startled to see...

Well, I did debate Joe Rogan on Penn's radio show...

that was fun -- thanks. i still can't figure out how Norman Rockwell weighed in.

but i prefer to draw strips in which something physical happens. ever trip on a moon rock? or accidentally brain someone with a telescope? do astronomers ever prank each other?

Excellent comic! Neil Gershenfeld was definately the surprise hit of TAM5!

Are there any more convention 'toons where that came from?

thank you.

not yet, but a skeptic-related strip will show up Monday on Buzzle (dot) com, or the next day on Salon.

Heh. Every (observational) astronomer I know has brained themselves on the counterweights hanging off the side of a big telescope. We had one at UVa (the 31" Tinsley: http://www.astro.virginia.edu/research/observatories/FanMt.php) ; the arm was easily two meters long. The weights, of course, are black, so you can't see them. D'oh! Eventually someone was bright enough to put yellow tape on them.

We've all slipped off observing ladders, dropped heavy equipment on our feet, and been attacked by wild animals at observatories.

To see how tough you must be to be an astronomer, read this.

Well, he used one as a prop in a nudie calendar.
That'd make for a really funny "strip". But then again, any more of that picture and he'll soon be known as the BareAstronomer ...

actually, you should see BAs calendar shot. Well placed props make any photograph better.

I wonder if Mrs.BA has that up at her workplace?

while you're waiting for the ink to dry...

(one more of these and i can post URLs...)

NEAT! and it is a well known fact that all astronomers have butlers!

(and in this case, the butler DID do it!)
