Illuminator
I was in NYC on Saturday and after tooling through Forbidden Planet I went into the subway station at Union Square. There were break dancers kickin' it and everyone was enjoying them. After watching them for a bit I headed to my train and found the Co$ people in their usual spot with their "Free Stress Tests" and decided to harass them a bit. Just a bit more fun for me for the day. I made sure I was loud enough that the people sitting at their tables could hear. I had my fun and walked toward my train and saw some Transit Police so I asked them why the Co$ people were allowed to set up shop in the station. Their reply was that they were a religion and allowed. I was told I could contact the TP if I wished. I gave them a few choice but polite words about the Co$ and went to my train.
I have already emailed Bloomberg's office once (no reply). I tried contacting the DOH, since they are giving bogus stress tests and figured the DOH might have something to say about it. I did get an answer, that it wasn't their area of concern.
Now this doesn't sit well with me. The break dancers who were entertaining people would probably be shooed out of the station if the TP were in the mood, since they had no official ids that allowed them to perform in the station. I am subject to search in all NYC subway and train stations when I wear my backpack (gamer gear often with me) but the Co$ people just automatically get a free pass because they are a "religion"? I don't see why ANYONE is allowed, post 9/11, to simply set up shop in a subway station. We have TP, regular police and Guardsmen in stations. We have constant announcements at all stations that backpacks and large bags are subject to search. We have announcements to remind us to inform authorities if we see anything suspicious. While this is not oppressive, it is a reminder for all to be wary.
And yet the Co$ gets to hang out in the subway station not bothered at all.
What bothers me is that NYC doesn't seem to have the will to examine what they are doing. They are giving "free stress tests". That is not exactly sharing a religion with people. That the tests are completely bogus, since the emeter is a piece of crap doesn't seem to bother them. That they are using the stress test to get people in to the Co$ for auditing so they can make money, also doesn't seem to bother them. I hate that they are turning a blind eye to a form of bait and switch operation just because they label it "religion".
So, I will continue to harass the Co$ in the subways whenever I get the chance. Someone has to tell them they aren't welcome
