I hadn't noticed anybody commenting on Randi's call for comparative education of chiropractors and doctors. I don't have first hand knowledge of either, but I will say that I have heard chiros trott out the "equivalent or more schooling" thing before. In my view, they're offering a very apples-to-oranges comparison here.

For example from Randi's quote:

she commented she was required to complete more credits in diagnostic training than an MD would need.

This is just silly. An MD would have to complete 3-5 years of internship/residency before being allowed to practice un-supervised. Most of those 3-5 years will be spent diagnosing and treating patients. I've heard doctors chuckle and make comparisons of "that'd be like letting someone fresh out of med school treat a patient" (i.e. something gauranteed to go disastrously wrong). Doctors with an MD seem to consider the degree a jumping off point to go on to other things (internship, Ph.D. program, research) not as a terminal educational experience.

Also, how would they learn their ace diagnostic skills if not in a teaching hospital? How are they going to distinguish an arrhythmia from a murmur from a leaky mitral valve unless they listen to the hearts of those patients?

Anybody have any other experiences/things to say on the matter?
