Chinese snakes predict eartquakes!

Jiang Weisong said:
When an earthquake is about to occur, snakes will move out of their nests, even in the cold of winter.
The early tremors also cause a state of glacial calm in Lenny Bruce.

The fact that snakes can "hear" in stereo has been the subject of recently announced research:

Physicists from the University Munich in Germany and the Washburn Univ-University of Topeka, Kansas have strong new evidence that snakes can hear through their jaws. Snakes don't have outer ears, leading to the myth that they can't hear at all.

Snakes still can't tell the difference between a heavy truck rolling by in the street and an earthquake and even if they could they couldn't tell you.

Shouldn't you rephrase that to read: "We don't know whether snakes can tell the difference between a heavy truck rolling by in the street and an earthquake. And since they can't tell us, we should devise a suitable experiment to determine if they can."

With the amount of movie cameras running at any time around the world, some must be filming animals, birds, snakes, etc. immediately before and during the start of earthquakes. Have any of these been examined to see if there was any different behaviour or not? I’m sure it would be found that animals would be just as surprised by an earthquake as us mere humans. Personally I think it’s yet another "old wives tale".
