China

The folks over at r/noncredibledefense have been following the latest developments pretty closely and enthusiastically, in their own weird way. That demographic is almost certainly 99% white people.

Small minorities will always be interested.

It's no great revelation that white is more newsworthy than black, or maybe check how many black kids have gone missing since Madeline McCann and compare how much media coverage they generated.

The Philippine president said Thursday that his government would take action against what he called dangerous attacks by the Chinese coast guard and suspected militia ships in the disputed South China Sea, saying “Filipinos do not yield.”

Ferdinand Marcos Jr. did not provide details of the actions his government would take in the succeeding weeks but said these would be “proportionate, deliberate and reasonable in the face of the open, unabating, and illegal, coercive, aggressive and dangerous attacks by agents of the China coast guard and Chinese maritime militia.”

“We seek no conflict with any nation,” Marcos wrote on X, formerly Twitter, but said the Philippines would not be “cowed into silence.”

Meanwhile, “China’s defense ministry accused the Philippines of escalating the South China Sea disputes by undertaking provocative moves and spreading “misinformation to mislead the international community.””

China using the “Every accusation is an admission” tactic?

Is this attitude typical in Australia?

You can bet the US Pacific Fleet is writing contingcy plans for deployment to the Phillipinees as we speak.
Leyte Gulf 2.0?

No Wonder Vietnam is seriusly considering letting US forces Base there. The worm has turned indeed.

It's more of a problem with Xi. He took the CCP over and runs it as a dictator for life. Before he did that the CCP was more interested in just making money and expanding influence, which is pretty much what every country does. Now he's provoking mass warfare and taking total political control. Even ex Chinese citizens are fair game for not showing him total support in their new country.

Hong Kong is now completely subservient but no longer gives China the valuable economic and trade inputs it once did.

I think Xi is the apotheosis of this kind of government. He doesn't become god-emperor in vacuum. He becomes god-emperor because his faction in government becomes powerful enough to seat him on the throne. The people at the top don't want to run China into the ground, they want to run China into their pockets. Xi wouldn't be in the position he is, without a military, commercial, and political cabal that wanted him there for their own benefit.

And I think that process, the evolution from committee to oligarchy to kleptocracy, with one moff of moffs - a grand moff, if you will - sitting as overlord, has been underway for a long long time. The government of communist China was always like this, to some extent. Xi's ascension is just China becoming more of what it already was.

I despise XI, but the CCP has always been a brutal dictatorship Tenman square happened when XI was just a minor figure. XI just put it into high gear, like Stalin did with the Soviet System.
You can't expect anything good from a Party that still worhips Mao, one of the worse mass murderers of all time, and neck in neck with Hitler and Stalin for the "worst person of all time" contest.

One thing I've come to understand from the recent Russian unpleasantness is that it's not the CCP that's like this. It's China that's like this.

The real indictment of Marxism is not that it always fails in practice, but that it's always put into practice by people who don't want to succeed in the way that we understand successful societies.

Pity the useful idiot who still believes in the Marxist utopia. Exterminate with prejudice the demagogue who promises to make it a reality.

Nothing scares the hell out of me like a Utopian of any flavor ina postion of power.
Marxist,Fascustm Religious Nutjob(of any Religion) does not matter, they are both out to make utopias, and will slaughter anybody who does not fit in with their version of Utopia.

I'm not even talking about the utopians. I'm talking about the cynical demagogues who exploit utopian dreams to get themselves installed as oligarchs.

THey are bad, but the True Beleivers are even worse.

That can be debated. The biggest murderers in history, like Stalin, Mao, or Pol Pot were in it for the power, and not for any utopia. Hitler probably too, but his utopia involved himself having all the power.

BS
Mao caused the death of Millions because of his idiotic policies ..driven by pure ideilogy..during the "Great Leap Forward".
Pol Pot was an fanatic ideolouge if ever there was one.
Of course being a fanatic is perfectly compatible with a lust for power, but denying that millions have died because of political ideology is pretty silly.
I think someobdy is just reluctant to admit how many people have died because of Hard Left Ideology.
