• Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.

Can anyone help?

I tried disabling my firewall temporarily; didn't work.

I'm still unsure of exactly when this started happening; my best guess is about two months ago. In that time, I've pretty much only installed games, barring the LiveUpdate which runs on its own. I have done a couple of required system update installations, I think, and may have done one optional update in that time, however; but I'm not sure how to check that.

It wasn't your firewall I wanted you to try to disable, it was the full Norton protection that is shown on your browser (there's a whole toolbar on your IE showing it). Unfortunately, since what you have is consumer software I'm not familiar with it (I use something very different at home), so I can't tell you how to disable that. The reason I asked you to do that is because Norton may be inadvertently blocking the (java)scripts that allow YouTube videos to play, even though it doesn't block Flash. YouTube, particularly embedded YT videos, require both Flash and Javascript to be running in order to work.

Ah; I misunderstood.

Tried shutting off Auto-Protect and the Firewall for Norton, and it didn't fix the issue. Turning off the Auto-Protect (since it protects my entire computer) should've been enough to test the theory I think, but I figured I'd try both. Still not working.

One thing about this is that if I go to YouTube's website, videos work perfectly fine there. I'm not sure why they work there and not on websites that have them embedded, but it seems to be the case.

At this point I'm thinking I'll just live with it until Windows 7 comes out and then buy a new tower; I'm coming up due for a new one anyway, as I'm starting to run out of room on my hard drive on this one. But I appreciate the help, and if you think of anything else I can try, please let me know! :)

Wait, I think I misunderstood earlier. So going to the website (Youtube.com) does work, but the embedding here doesn't? My mistake for not getting that. If so, that's at least telling me that your computer is allowing some scripting (because youtube.com has scripts on its pages), but something on the type of embedding here is preventing it.

Quick question: is it allowing embedding on sites that don't have that little "I agree" video-hiding option like the JREF embedding has?

I've gone to icanhascheezburger.com and gotten the same issue, so my guess is no. Plus the Big Fish Games website, although I haven't tried playing the videos they tend to embed on their game description pages; I just know that the picture that's supposed to be at the top of the calendar disappears the second the page finishes loading.

I can't help you but I feel your pain girlfriend. Computers can be darned frustrating.
