Your reaction is consistant with my theory, so I'm quite satisfied it's most likely correct.

While it's possible you could be telling the truth and have read the book, I notice you've never quoted anything from a book that can't easily be found with Google, so I'll further guess it's not your habit to read books when you can easily read what someone else says about them.

Can I prove this?

No, but I've stated my reasoning and anyone else can agree or not. As the issue isn't terribly important to me, that result is satisfactory.

On the other hand, if it's not satisfactory to you, you might devise some method of demonstrating you have read the book. I'd suggest talking about it in your own words rather than someone else's.

This is testable.

I say Mycroft names a page or pages, and Demon responds by posting the first four or six lines of text from those pages.

I cannot see how Demon could pass this test without access to a copy of the book in question.

Demon could of course have lied, and could now run and get a copy of the book. But having to go through all that to cover up a lie is punishment enough in my book.

Mycroft, could you nominate a page or pages? Rik, could you use your copy to confirm or deny the accuracy of Demon's response?

All that would prove is he has access to the book. I'd rather see him discuss a few of its ideas, even if briefly.
