Can anyone recommend a good book about the problems of religious fanaticism, especially Christian? Most of them deal with Islamic terrorism, but I'm looking for something that would speak to daily life and how fanaticism can be a problem.

I had a patron this afternoon, and while ethics prevent me from repeating his actual question, he was interested in preparing for an argument on the subject. I could not find a title that really fit the bill. :confused:

Any suggestions?
 
It might be a bit more general than what you're looking for, but try Jihad vs. McWorld by Benjamin Barber.
 
It really depends on which approach you want to take on the issue of Fundamentalism. Beyond Good and Evil is an excellent read, but does anyone really want to live the Superman ideology? Personally, it isn't for me.

I loved the answer: The Bible. That's a great answer. I'd recommend starting in Galatians or any of the three Synoptics.

Then there's a little book called: Bible Believers-- all my books are packed up or I'd give you the author's name. Spong has a book entitled "Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism" that is good, but the all time greatest book in my opinion is called, Toxic Faith by Artenburn, again don't Goggle the author's last name because without it right in front of me, I'm sure I've mispelled it.

These latter three books are Christian authors. If that's not the route you want to take, well don't bother with them, but they are in fact very good reads, especially Toxic Faith.

Thanks, everyone, for the recommendations. Why I didn't think of Beyond Good and Evil, I don't know. Also, I love the Bible idea. Stamenflicker's ideas are great, and I am pursuing these leads.
