Biological computing

So I was reading this article about biological computing a couple of months ago. I think it's a really cool concept to use DNA or something similar as a logic gate. My only question is this.

Is it possible that we could accidentally 'create' viruses or by using this process. Like if you were calculating some very advanced equation and the combination of molecules, in answering the math problem, actually created a virus.

I'd like to hear your opinions.

Theoretically yes it is possible.

There is not yet enough known about DNA to be 100% sure that an accidental virus could be created not matter how stringent the safety procedures are.

Logically if a virus can be made via conventional computers the same should be said for biological ones too.
 
Do you have a link per chance to the article you have mentioned?
 
I don't remember where I read it. I was reading about quantum computing, and there was a link from there. I think it actually might have been www.howitworks.com

It was a long time ago, so there actually may be a lot more info on it now.

Is is possible? Sure.

Humans create dangerous things both on purpose and by accident all the time. Why would this be different just becuase the work is being done on a small scale?

We will have to continue to attempt to take care when using our abilities to create, and should continue to react apporpriately if mistakes are made and corrective action becomes necessary.
 
Wow. Thanks, that's amazing.

It amazes me even more that this kind of thing doesn't much press. People are more interested in gang violence and celebrity gossip, I guess.

Don't worry about it, somethings and some people belong together and that's what they do.


I would say this from talking with a couple of close friends from Uni, that they view the biological computer with a lot of caution(Matrix they mentioned frequently) They hold the views a biological computer is far more dangerous than an conventional computer.
 
It makes me think the point of singularity is closer than we think.
I'm just glad I'll be alive to see some really amazing things happen here on earth.

Earth is pretty amazing, Reminds me of the time I first saw The Dolomites in Italy, via my motorbike travels, because of their limestone formation the colours they take on at sunset is breathtaking, If I recall correctly and I am sure somebody will jump right on in to correct me, they change through 15 different hues as the sun sets it certainly made me appreciate being alive still.

Simple natural things make the bigget wow I feel anyway.:D
