Belief system selector

As an experiment, I retook the test making random selections without reading the options. The first 7 on the list:

Mainline – Conservative Christian Protestant
Mainline – Liberal Christian Protestant
Mormon
Orthodox Quaker
Orthodox Judaism
Eastern Orthodox
Roman Catholic

Interesting how many times “Othodox” appears on the list. Secular Humanist was the very last entry on the list.

If you click on "Click here for info" it gives a definition and recommended web sites.

Congratulations on your 100% Secular Humanism, Ruby! :) (Its the same as atheist/nontheist, just more optimistic.)

Oh, and congratulations on your 33% Scientology :p!

Secular Humanist

Sigh, I got the same result as just about everyone else. Booooring.

I guess I should just resign myself to the fact that I'm a Secular Humanist. I'll have to buy one of those "Happy Humanist" bumper stickers.

Why no Zen buddhism in the quiz? They probably couldn't figure out how to score it.

Thanks!

What makes me laugh is the 22% on the mainline to conservative Christian. When I first took this test...a couple of years ago..I was 100% on that!!!! By the time I came on Jref, I had already slipped a bit on the mainline to conservative. I was 100% liberal Christian. I am quite proud of my 100% secular humanism now!! I'd like to email my results to all my friends and family...but they'd freak out!!!! :j2:

That was then, this is now:

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (92%)
3. Liberal Quakers (77%)
4. Non-theist (72%)
5. Theravada Buddhism (67%)
6. Neo-Pagan (67%)
7. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (63%)
8. New Age (52%)
9. Taoism (48%)
10. Reform Judaism (46%)

I find it interesting that now that I'm considering actually becoming a Unitarian, it slips 8% on my list. hm.
Just because I think it's interesting to do this over from time to time:

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (97%)
3. Liberal Quakers (87%)
4. Theravada Buddhism (83%)
5. Neo-Pagan (80%)
6. Non-theist (76%)
7. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (74%)
8. New Age (69%)
9. Mahayana Buddhism (66%)
10. Orthodox Quaker (66%)

Looks like my Unitarianism is back up. Not quite the 100% I had two times ago, but not bad. Still strong in the Secular Humanism. It's sad to see Judaism drop out of the top ten (even though it's at a higher percentage than last time, 57%).

Always fun. Thanks again, Ruby.

Yep, I enjoy taking this every few months or so. When I first took this test on here....back in May of last year, I was still a Christian. It's neat to look through this thread and see my changing results on the test as my deconversion happened fairly rapidly.

Three months ago.....
1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (93%)
3. Liberal Quakers (80%)
4. Neo-Pagan (75%)
5. Non-theist (74%)
6. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (73%)
7. New Age (62%)
8. Theravada Buddhism (57%)
9. Taoism (57%)
10. Reform Judaism (54%)
11. Mahayana Buddhism (42%)
12. Orthodox Quaker (42%)

and now....

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (95%)
3. Liberal Quakers (82%)
4. Neo-Pagan (82%)
5. Non-theist (76%)
6. Theravada Buddhism (74%)

8. Reform Judaism (65%)
9. Taoism (63%)
10. New Age (62%)
11. Sikhism (52%)
12. Mahayana Buddhism (44%)

No surprises. I am still 100% secular humanism. I went up two points on Unitarianism...that's nice. I also went up two points on Non theist. Don't know why I went up two points on liberal Christian.

Quakers probably show up high even for people who don't adhere to the listed tenets, because there is an emphasis on keeping credo and doctrine to a supposed minimum, and a history of rebelling against mainstream organized religion.

That has led of lot of Universalists, New Agers, Neo Zenners, etc. to move into Quaker meetings (that and the fact that most Quakers don't bring guns to meeting ;) ...).

As a result the modern distinction between Liberal Quaker and the more orthodox members in the USA has to do with geography and politics as well as how they worship.
Most Liberal meetings are on the coasts in larger groups, while the conservative Friends churches are scatterd thoughout the heartland, more numerous, smaller membership.

There are many links at Quaker.org, some of which will lead you to Quakerly newsgroups which should be enough to scare anyone off.

In other words, George Fox is probably up in Heaven doing this

Paul Nunis :D
