Being A Cop While White

Good thing there was a body cam indeed. Seems like video protects the honest and shuts up the liars. Makes you wonder why there is so resistance by police to implement these. Sure shut down this spurious complaint in a hurry.

To be fair, it's definitely not all police - although it is *many* police, and many unions and FOPs.

In this case, the man was absolutely professional, and even somewhat friendly considering. Shaun King (who was quoted in the OP) has outright said that he would like to meet the officer to apologize to him, and to compliment his performance, personally. Even the woman's lawyer has abandoned her and apologized to the cop.

But let's say that he has sexually assaulted and threatened this woman, as a thought experiment. Normally, we would expect a fight for the most basic footage that would last, at the very least, months. In Baltimore folks are *still* trying to get footage of what the police were doing to the high school kids they kettled in, and allegedly then shot with smoke canisters and rubber bullets at the start of the famous Freddie Gray riot, and that was three years ago. It's very easy to get extremely cynical when that is normal and expected, and to gear up for a fight in any case.

Who knew speed limits were part of a white supremacist plot to systematically oppress non-whites?

Here's another example of systematic oppression.Link to article and video.

The short of it.

Black NAACP president accuses a cop of racial profiling after he was pulled over because he failed to signal at a turn.

Claimed the police officer asked if there were drugs in the car, among many other things.

Police Department releases video proving everything the man said about the officer's misbehavior was a complete and total lie.

The officer was professional and courteous.

The NAACP president still has not apologized for lying and accusing a cop of racism. In fact, he doubled down with his lies and said there were two officers at the scene and no one is seeing the other officer in the footage.

Jesus, Joseph and Mary, why is this lying race huckster so desperate to be a victim?

Respect among peers. It seems you can't be a real black person unless you have been discriminated against. I think most African American people don't want to live in the world MLK was proposing or Rosa Parks helped create, they want to be MLK or Ms. Parks. They want their community to rally behind them, shouting slogans, chanting their name, as they courageously stand up against the modern day slave masters.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

*deep breath*

AAAAAHAHAHAHAA!!!

Wow that was racist.

No, most black Americans are fine with a decent job, good opportunities for their kids, a healthy and long life, good friends, and so forth. Some are addicts, a few are desperate for fame, and some are depressed or don't know what they want for whatever reason.

If we were so desperate to be martyrs in some race politics, we'd have voted for Dolt 45.

Having lived through the Tawana Brawley case, I'm glad to see something like this put to rest so quickly. Technology should, like it did here, make policing safer for both cops and civilians.

Not sure why race is an issue. Stupid woman lies about officer's conduct (for some reason) - obviously didn't realise that the body cam was recording.

She messed up big time. Is it possible that she could be prosecuted for false accusations or something?

Because awful race baiters like Shawn King made it so.

You speak for all black people now? Obviously some didn't get the memo as they voted for the knob in cheif.

You have no more right to claim your opinion is held by all our even the majority of black people than I do for the ethnic free for all that is my genetic makeup. You are not all black people you are one.

Don't need to - it's what the vast majority of black Americans say on every survey into their concerns, their political decisions, and so forth. I realize that you're probably shocked to hear that black people are pretty much the same as other people, but it's true regardless and easily verified by this incredible new technology known as "the internet".

Tell you what, you're on a "skeptic" website, I'll leave it to you to use this powerful resource to verify this for yourself. I'm told that skeptics often pride themselves on their thirst for knowledge and research, after all.

Well, that didn't take long.

These same people will also not hesitate to waste their time making a big show of pointing out any bit of racism they can find. For what then? Engaging every fool who says something stupid won't eliminate racism. No rally or protest is going to make everyone like black people. There are lots of people in the world who don't like other people and there always will be. I look forward to a day when African Americans can get over it, accept this and move on, only then will racism lose its power.

No, that'd be marching pretty much 24/7. Rallies tend to be for the deeply egregious stuff, that government officials then show up and insist is perfectly okay. Below that, people just start making jokes and having a good time with it (Justine Sacco, BBQ Becky). And a lot of stupid minor comments and actions ("You're not like the other black folks", touching hair, etc) is just something that gets joked about once in a while, or laughed at immediately.

Which means that black Americans are...just like every other racial group in the US. I laughed at what you wrote, and decided to reply, because...well, because you really were acting ridiculously directly in front of me. kinda like some woman that sees me walking down the street, freaks out, and then runs in front of a car because she's so panicked to get across the street.

Or someone playing on their phone that walks around a bunch of barriers and falls down a manhole.

If this were an office, I'd laugh, but then wave it off. But it's online, so that's a bit different.

Racism will lose its power if only the victims don't fight it?

Yeah, it's not how it works at all. Sometimes, protests (and on rarer occasion, outright riots) are the only thing that get required attention - see: Trayvon Martin, the police attack on Ferguson. And a lot of the time, there's not much to do but remember that the person in question was clearly saying a bunch o racist nonsense, and don't put trust in them, just like any other annoying person.

What concrete positive changes can you point to as a result of the protests and riots following Martin's death, and heh, the police attack on Ferguson?

You don't have to be an apologist for everything that stupid black individuals do. Defending the mob is a mistake, whether it's a white mob or a black mob.

For one, fewer people automatically take the police's side whenever there's a controversial shooting of an unarmed black man. Nowadays, the only people who do are the racists. So, the real benefit has been for those who document who the racists are.

But keep on arguing against protests working (*********** seriously, this is something conservatives want to argue against now?).

FOr Martin - George Zimmerman's arrest and trial.

For Ferguson: a white supremacist PD was placed under consent decree, their abuses, as well as their violent response to locals trying to mourn in public beginning before any protests had even begun, were widely reported and rebuked by federal courts.

So stop doing it.

Show me how you came to this conclusion. I'm sure you can prove it was these things, not 50 years of society moving away from racist views, but the rowdy actions of recent years.

I hate this trend of pretending we are doing all the historical heavy lifting. It spits in the face of people who went through **** we will never see long before most of us were born.

We are the detail work of history, and the sooner we get back to acknowledging that the sooner we can make actual progress.

Go tell your grandparents you are responsible for people giving a ****. Not them you. You obviously think so, just check if others do. And please dear God tape it I could use a laugh.

Eh, I've wasted enough time trying to let you post an actual reply to anything I say, instead of flopping around like a fish in a boat. Scram.

You shouldn't put trust in them and that invalidates them, giving you no reason to be affected by the racism thus eliminating its power. I was thinking along the lines of maybe the kkk are having a rally and instead of going across the street and protesting, clashing up with the skinheads and police. You would then just let them have their little costume party, be free of all the negativity created by engaging these people.

If you are a member of the kkk how would you define a successful rally, one where the police had to protect them or one where nobody even cared?

When I see stories like this I occasionally check in with Saun King to see if he is still his normal bigoted prejudiced racist lying ******* that he has always been.

Because awful race baiters like Shawn King made it so.

Interesting that both of you appeared to have ignored the fact that Shaun King had already retracted his support for Sherita Dixon-Cole and apologized.

When the “victim” you fought for turns out to be the victimizer: Sherita Dixon-Cole and the painful consequences of a false report of sexual assault and police misconduct

He did so on May 23rd, the day before Bogative's comment, and three days before The Big Dog; and yet neither of them saw fit to mention that little fact (nor did they make the slightest effort to get his name right).

Quite clear who the racists and liars are here, and King is not one of them. Funny how these same suspects find it necessary to spin and justify the lies of white racists to deny their falsehood and racism, yet have no problem making an accusation of falsehood and racism over an honest mistake that was very quickly corrected and apologized for.

I don't know why I expected anything better, but humanity never fails to disappoint me no matter how low I set the bar.
