Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a beer challenge. Each person could bring some local beer, we all drink it, and then either decide a winner or drink more beer. From my understanding of the chocolate challenge this would be the same idea but with beer. If anyone is interested in doing something like this I can bring some good Michigan beer (in my opinion, the best state for beer.)

Well, I LOVE beer, and we have some darn good brews hereabouts. But getting several samples through airport security (I'll be taking just a carry-on) I think would not be possible- I understand TSI makes you drink any liquid you might be attempting to bring on the plane. It would be a great flight (which would get beer and beer over time) but there'd be nothing for me to then bring to the beer challenge.

Lone Star is apparently made in Kentucky or somewhere now, but I could secure some Shiner Bock. I'm sure it would be availible in Vegas.

(I was disappointed in this thread. I thought the contest would be chugging or shotgunning. Quality over volume would be a nice change for me though).

I would be but I despise beer.

Do you hate beer or drinks with alcohol? If it's just beer that you hate, I take that as a challenge. I am pretty sure that most everyone who says they hate beer just hasn't had the right beer yet. There are some fruit beers out now that no alcohol drinker can hate.

Alcohol is fine. Beer is cold urine.

With 800+ breweries, I don't even know which beers to bring along. I could just bring some standard pilsener, but then everyone else will be outshining me with special brews and what not, like they did at the first chocolate challenge where chaos and I had decided on milk chocolate.

I could try bringing a selection, but I'd quickly end up with too many bottles in my carry-on, which would eventually need to be divided up between too many people as well.

I think I'll just bring some beer along for the forum party. This way, you guys will at least have a fighting chance with your local beers ;)

But that aside, an interesting point was raised about airport security. They've never given me trouble about any of the booze I brought along in previous years. But after events this summer, I wonder if this is going to be a problem now?

From my limited experience of TAM (summed up as :alc: ) surely a TAM "Beer Challenge" would be to avoid beer - otherwise you can't really call it a challenge.

If you are checking luggage, it's not an issue - just pack it carefully so any bottles don't break. They won't let you bring them in your carry on luggage though.

In that case, the problem might be opening your luggage at the destination and finding all your clothes are wet and reek of beer.

It's only supposed to be that way when you open your suitcase upon arrival back home ...

exarch,

I no longer drink alcohol, but since I am driving to TAM via San Francisco, I have a particular beer in mind that I shall pick up along the way that you may share with other forumites.

Cheers!

I think there is only one beer brewery in this country. I tried their beer. It tasted like.. beer. I don't like beer. Fortunately they make good rum here.

I brought beer back from TAM last year in my suitcase and didn't have any problems with breakage. With only 3-4 people wanting to bring beer, a separate event seems kind of like overkill. Having just joined the forums, I wasn't planning on going to the forum party. However, maybe my wife and I will swing by early on in the party and whoever wants can do some beer sampling. How does that sound?

PS - KingMerv, I hope you are willing to at least try some of the beer, I guarantee you will like at least 1 of them*.

*offer not good if I can't find any of the beers I have in mind

I came back from a D-FW skeptics meet up for dinner and am now on beer number 15 and feeling just fine. Will the beer challenge be based on taste or coherance after consumption and will we be allowed to eat before hand?

Definitely come to the forum party! It's open to everyone, the more the merrier. We just hope that the people who show up at least join or check in on the forum at some point after the party . . . I think they usually do since they want to see the incriminating photos.

We were considering getting a keg, but if enough people bring beer, that may not be necessary. I like the idea of the beer challenge, so you guys please let me know if you're bringing booze. You can drop it off at the suite some time on Saturday, and if I feel we don't have enough I'll nip out to the liquor store to supplement.

Well I wouldn't want to be a closed-minded cynic...
