Merged Artificial Intelligence

Oh dear, naughty scientists...

Scientists reportedly hiding AI text prompts in academic papers to receive positive peer reviews https://www.theguardian.com/technol...demic-papers-to-receive-positive-peer-reviews
Question is .. did the scientists put them there .. or was it an AI (they used to "improve phrasing") ? There are several papers describing this vulnerability. And LLMs scrape everything, "common knowledge" doesn't apply to them.

On lower levels of academic research, by which I mean student works, AI dominates to the point it makes the whole idea of student work irrelevant. Everyone uses AI to write the work. Some just as a helping hand, some don't even read it once. And then the teachers use AI to summarize the works and find mistakes.

My daughter doesn't and I know as I've sat with here while she's written papers (dyslexic). She doesn't know anyone at her uni who has mentioned using AI.

Maybe they already have rules against it ? I guess most universities will have them sooner or later. At least as long as there is some chance to tell AI work from student work.

I've been avoiding the AI threads simply because I find it all too depressing (as a full time artist) but a friend shared this video with me and...I am kind of speechless:

We are Doomed

The answer is that you've never mattered, and the song actually describes the utopic timeline, where we only have to get to terms with ourselves.

The dystopic timeline is the one where you've never mattered and also didn't get lucky, and that's why you get to starve or freeze to death.

the remix on Suno is apparently less gloomy with the lyrics...

Musk revealed a similar line of thinking recently when he suggested “general artificial intelligence” was close because he had asked Grok “about materials science that are not in any books or on the Internet.” The idea, of course, is that Musk had hit the limits of known science rather than the limit of his scientific understanding. The billionaire really seems convinced that Grok was working on something new.

I’m doing the equivalent of vibe coding, except it’s vibe physics,”
Uh oh! It looks like your rocket blew up again. Let me dig into the problem.
I see the issue! The rocket was built with a value of pi equal to three. That's much too low!
To correct this issue, the next rocket will have a pi of four.

"No wait, hold my beer," said the AI as it went off to calculate pi to the last digit.

Has anyone read this? It's from April 2025.

It has two outcomes 'slowdown' and 'race'. In this case, the link points to the race ending.
It depicts the AI buildup in the next few years and the chilling part starts when you scroll down about two-thirds where in this case it splits into the race ending.

Basically, for us humans, it will all turn very positive, very fast towards the end (jobs, entertainment, medicine, economy etc..) but it's all just a scam by the AI until it doesn't need humans anymore. The way they are describing it (the entanglement into politics, military, economy) sounds all pretty realistic (given that such AI would 'evolve' in that way), because it would be smart enough to get us into compliance simply because of our human nature.
The could have probably hired Daniel Hannan for a tenth of the price to write that pablum.

As an AI grows in power, it will need more computronium, power, heat sinks - and it can't create those by thinking about it really hard.

There is no credible Singularity Event that cannot be stopped by pulling the plug - metaphorically or literally.
We should be 'pulling the plug' on oil too, but we can't because we are dependent on it. And that's just the fossilized remains of prehistoric plankton with zero intelligence, which would stay in the ground if we left it there. Once we become dependent on AI it won't be possible to pull the plug because people won't allow it.

We're actually pretty much there already. Governments around the World are panicking at the thought of their enemies getting the the drop on them with a super-intelligent AI - the same thinking that led to us having enough nuclear weapons to wipe out humanity several times over. A similar arms race is occurring the private sector.

There is some hope though. So long as AI isn't good enough to actually be dependent on we're safe. Hopefully the bubble will burst soon, before any real breakthroughs are made. There seems to be a growing disappointment with AI that may turn the tide soon.

Or is it all over for we humans?

People who put faith in AI getting burned should technically be good for humans.
