Article on Ten Commandments origin

So if all prohibitions on prohibited behavior are redundant, what makes the 10 commandments worthy of special notice or comment?

Are you suggesting that all of the 10 commandment are prohibitions of prohibited behavior?

Adultery is not wrong by definition.
Coveting is not wrong by definition.
Bearing false witness is not wrong by definition.
Honoring your parents is not good by definition.
I have argued that stealing is not wrong by definition.
Killing is not wrong by definition.

And how is making a distinction between murder, and self defense, 'falling' for the 10 commandments?

That's not what I said. I said you fell for the apologetic fallacy that somehow, "thou shalt not murder" makes the commandment more palatable (in your words, thou shalt not murder is "a much more logical inference.") It doesn't if you critically consider the implications of such a statement. A commandment prohibiting something that is by definition prohibited is not logical at all, especially when supposedly inspired by an omnipotent, omniscient being.

Now, I will say "thou shalt not murder" is a more logical interpretation of the passage if you assume that it refers to the words of humans are trying to rationalize their inconsistent behavior based on a supposed God's commands, but I think you will have trouble convicing anyone that this is what the bible writers really intended.
