aromatherapy for superbug

Maybe so, but I can think of worthier causes. Still, if the trial is done properly, it might be no bad thing.

From what I've read it probably does kill MRSA.
The only problem is trying to use them systemically, it probably can't be done safely.

So it's just another disinfectant? Plenty of these, what do you think is in all the little bottles at the handwash stations.

If it isn't usable in vivo, what a waste of time.

Of course a well-conducted trial that finds out the truth of whether something is effective or not is never wasted, I just think that there are so many more potentially useful ways to spend research money than chucking it at someone just because he labels his idea "aromatherapy".

Personally I think the best way to deal with MRSA is to develop a vaccine to prevent it and find new antibiotics designed to minimise the resistance potential for patients already infected.

I hear a potential vaccine is in development as well as a few new drugs.

I'll be surprised if a vaccine to Staphylococcus aureus is a practical proposition, but I could be wrong. We do use autogenous vaccines to Staphylococcus intermedius which is very similar, so perhaps it's a runner.

Develop new antibiotics. Yes. And find the Holy Grail while you're at it. A laudable goal, but not necessarily something you can just decide to do and it's done. And once you've done it, try stopping selfish, brain-dead morons from over-using it.

Hygiene is still a priority.
