"King of Queens" actress Leah Remini has left the Church of Scientology, claiming she was subjected to years of “interrogations” and “thought modification” for questioning David Miscavige’s rule.

The New York Post broke the story.

“It all began when Leah questioned the validity of excommunication of people,” a source said of her decision. “She is stepping back from a regime she thinks is corrupt. She thinks no religion should tear apart a family or abuse someone under the umbrella of ‘religion.’ ”

It must be true- perezhilton reported it!

"While Leah is not publicly denouncing Scientology, she did recently tweet out a quote from renowned psychiatrist Viktor Frankl:

"When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. "

Leah's choice in quoting the positive message of a psychiatrist is especially interesting, given Scientology's well-known desire to abolish psychiatry!"

The choice of quoting Viktor FranklWP is more revealing than ph lets on.

All the best to a brave lady.

Good luck Leah. Maybe because she's a celebrity she won't be subject to as much harassment as the common folk who leave. Either way, good for her.

Is there a religion that doesn't lead to this if followed the way the book dictates?

She's one of those people that make me think, "Dammit, I like her, why does she have to be a Scientologist?" But now I don't have to.

One less thing to worry about.

I hope she's already in touch with Mike Rinder and Marty Rathbun. Either that, or anyone at Operation Clambake. They should be able to help her deal with her future problems with Scientology and get back to a more normal lifestyle.

Too bad it didn't happen for Isaac Hayes before he died.

She's in for a trial dealing with the CoS true believers.

I used to listen to a radio personality out of the Tampa Fla. area by the name of Bubba The Love Sponge when the guy was on SatRad.

Interesting guy, full of **** as a Christmas Goose, but he often had interesting folks on his show.

In this particular show, he had on LRH's great grandson, who broke away from the CoS and has had a hell of a time of it.

I don't know if they get into it in this vid, but the host BTLS ended up with some unwanted contacts with CoS types that he addressed in a very stereotypical Florida redneck/professional wrestler/dirt track racer fashion.

I hope Leah Remini fairs better.

Maybe she's one of those who still believes in the "tech" but thinks that the current leadership is corrupt. She could still be brainwashed.

Did Isaac Hayes leave Scientology? I thought he left South Park.

No, he didn't leave. He died very shortly after he left the show. Hayes officially left the show on March 13, 2006, and he died on March 20, 2006, after having a second stroke. I was wishing he'd left Scientology instead---sorry for the confusion.

I've often wondered if his life might have been prolonged if he'd gotten appropriate medical treatment rather than relying on Scientology bunk. However, there's no evidence to indicate that his reliance on Scientology's anti-drug principles contributed to his death in any way.

Actually, Tony Ortega broke the news several days before the NY Post on his excellent blog.

And he's had several very interesting updates since.

Thanks very much, kajata.

:). You're welcome.

My annoyance at The Post in not giving Ortega any credit in its story (they have, though, in its follow-ups, since, at least) was tempered by the fact that it gave the story much wider notice and led to it being picked up by nearly every news organization and entertainment and gossip site.

Maybe just wishful thinking on my part but how much longer can this organization last? Anyone doing a 2-minute search on the web would flee in the opposite direction and the churches stand empty despite their spending millions building new "Ideal" orgs around the world.

Even the people who've left the church to practice the religion on their own are bad-mouthing each other (see Marty Rathbun's blog). Old habits die hard, I guess.
