I think a lot of people get stuck on bad theology and end up loosing their faith because of it. There is a LOT of hypocrisy in just about every faith on the planet. A lot of so –called religious people (I’m speaking from a Christian perspective) think that you have to do things as they see fit or you’re damned.
This is why a lot of rationally minded people end up rejecting organized religion. However, the true mark of a religious person is his mercy or compassion, not his sacrifice. Nothing in being merciful prevents a person from being rational.
From what I’ve learned about Randi from his website is that he is a very compassionate person. He constantly endeavors to inform vulnerable people so they won’t be taken in by unscrupulous charlatans. And that to my mind, makes him a very religious person. Although I know he won’t agree with that!!
