It's really not meant to be an observation about her spelling, although that only adds to the hilarity. Even if she'd correctly used the term "eons," it would still be eye-poppingly dumb, in my opinion.
However, the real reason it gets my attention is this: I don't understand those who adore her. I never have. I raised this question when she was first nominated last year, and never got what I consider a satisfactory answer. The best I can figure is that the hard right likes her simply because she irritates their opponents, and in some weird political variant of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," that makes her an acceptable spokesmodel for their poorly defined political front.
The defensive responses in this thread are quite illuminating.
You would be better represented by someone more articulate. Admit it. I don't understand why you aren't looking for that someone.
