A shocking comment

I don't understand the point of your post?

Please be more clear. I read the article but...your message escapes me.

I don't think I had much of a point. I was just a bit antagonized by the title of his article....untill I'd read it.

I then thought I'd share his excellent article with you lot.

Looked to be pretty spot on - what's the shocking bit?

The minute the US attained sole superpower status we became insufferable, arrogant twats. It comes with the territory.

DD, if you've ever seen the Mel Brooks movie, History of the World, Pt 1, then you should recognize the inherent irony in the headline.

"It's good to be da king." Said by a very bad king.

Imho

I't seems to me that my English is so bad that I can't quite udnderstand the points of your replies otherwise you really don't care that you state budget has so great and growing deficit. And your gross product is decreasing from year to year. Can't you see that the USD european rate of exchange is falling down extremely? An your economics as well....but you don't care discussing other's wars and even meddle in them. That could be dangerous

makes more sense than most of the drivel Lou Dobbs comes out with.....insofar as he is actually saying that the trade deficit should be a long term worry for US politicians....

I read Dobb's comments and although I don't usually watch his show, I'm pretty sure he's making an obscure reference to Mel Brook's part in History of the World, Pt. 1 as slingblade said. He does sometimes overuse sarcasm in getting his message across. I think you can best glean the sarcasm from this:
________________

"Because we're a superpower, we needn't concern ourselves with silly little annoyances like trade and budget deficits. Who cares? What greater proof of our superpower status can there be than 30 consecutive years of trade deficits, evaporating surpluses in services and agricultural goods and even technology.

Our trade deficit in manufacturing soared nearly 300 percent from 1997 to 2005, surging to $662.5 billion. Our business and government leaders soothingly remind us that we are a technology economy and needn't be distracted by developments like the reversal of what was a $35-billion surplus in high-tech goods to what is now a $44-billion deficit. It's great to be The Superpower."

Still, I can understand DD's point. Without knowledge of the reference Dobb's accidently sounds as goofy as the people who actually practice the, "let them eat cake," philosophy while the lower classes fight their wars and work for nothing.

Frankly, I'm just happy Dobb's didn't blame the Mexicans. ;)

he is a horrible man. makes you realise how skewed the media is if a bigot like Dobbs can get a platform on the supposedly "liberal" CNN....

Yeah, Goddamit! We killed a lot of people and stepped on a lot of lives to get where we're at! You'd better friggin respect us if you know what's good for you!

We're not exactly diplomatic expert these days, are we?

Lou Dobbs never blames the Mexicans, he sometimes raises concerns about criminal invaders from mexico

Not the same thing though , the SLAG FAIRY's would like to make people think so

From the article:

because as Vice President Dick Cheney suggests, conservation doesn't work well anyway.

Said sarcastically, but true. A savings of 10%, pretty good, in any particular area, gets eaten up in a few years of 2-3% growth in usage.
