A quick Crop Circle question

I used to believe the whole Roswell thing until I learned that many of the "facts" were distortions, confused memories and flat-out made up. Yay science.

So... since crop circles can clearly be made by people, and much of the other "proof" (i.e. high radiation, etc) turns out to be bunk, I am left with 1 claim that is tough to reconcile with hoaxers: Supposedly, these things have been appearing in large numbers, for many decades, all over the world.

Of course we've got copycats in the last couple of decades, no mystery there... but is the "long history" total BS? Is this another case of TV producers making it up? Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for your time.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that. People have been making crop circles for the better part of the 20th century.

Anything before that, well, so what? It's not like they didn't have a block of wood and some rope thousands of years ago, not that there is any evidence for crop circles thousands of years old, but even if there were...

I wouldn't worry about this. Just remember to be critical of people's motivations, remember that if you set your mind to something (like making an iradiated stumper of a crop circle) you can do it, and being scholarly and honest about history is a very rare thing indeed.

I think you'll find that the crop circle "explosion" occurred in the 1970s, which just happens to coincide with a time frame later confessed to by a couple of English hoaxers.

Before that, there's not much in the public record.

That circle COULD be made a long time ago isn't the issue... I'm wondering if significant numbers were noted before the golden age (70's onward, as mentioned above) o' circles.

I'm guessing not, we'd presumably have some kinda records from pilots for at least the last 50 years.

Ah, see the thing is, I'm interested in evidence (or lack thereof). I find that many skeptics mistakenly view it as a movement to enforce a worldview (i.e. ghosts, bigfoot and UFOs don't exist), and are particularly critical of differing views.

Just the facts, please :)

Aeroplanes have been flying for 100 years. Photography is older. Oldest aerialphotograph was from a balloon, 1860 . Wilbur must have taken some snaps while Orville piloted, soo, if crop circles have been around, why no pics older than the 1970's?

why no pics older than the 1970's?

Conspiracy!

Nah, that's kinda what I'm asking... if there is any significant (plentiful) evidence before the 70's.

Surely you're not suggesting that Unsolved Mysteries lied to me?!!!

Unsolved Mysteries?

Hahahahahahahahahaha

My point exactly. Most of the public hear about this stuff from similar shows, which present their stories as fact... one of those "facts" being that the circles have been sited (and cited) globally, for centuries. This is why I asked.
