A letter and appeal on Climate Change

Who here is really wanting to insult the scientists anyway? They (most I would suggest) know and acknowledge that the science isn't ever settled.

It's the warmibles who fall prey to the political ideologies and groupthink that ensues. And it's them that do the vast majority of the insulting, and (hilariously to me) then whine "no fair, I'm telling mummy" when they get a little of their own back.
Tis the way of most bullies.
Good points. Although SOME Of the scientists are pure warmibles, as the climategate emails revealed.

Quite nicely.

True enough, but I would not wish to tar all the scientists with the same brush. By and large they are honest hard working individuals.
Warmibles on the other hand .....

Group hug in dwindling deniers camp. How cute.

South Pole Has Warmest Year on Record

LiveScience.com – Mon May 10, 12:01 pm ET
The South Pole experienced its warmest year on record in 2009, according to newly released data from the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station.
The average temperature at the South Pole last year was still a bone-chilling minus 54.2 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 47.9 degrees Celsius) in 2009, making it the warmest year on record since 1957, when temperature records began at the South Pole, as was reported by Peter Rejcek, an e

Reality is seriously getting in the way of denier nonsense :garfield:

Psst Mac - your credibility is in the toilet. Have you been back to the 'downhill' thread yet? They've been waiting for you for some time.

by the way. No-one here (afaict) is disputing global warming, just the 'A' in 'AGW'. Your points are , well pointless.

That said, one is a warmerporn site,
the other tells us the South Pole was "minus 47.9 degrees Celsius" in 2009. Quick! Run away fast! - the ice will start melting and drown us all. Run away, run away!

Alarmist twaddle.
Wow.

-47.9C?

The function of a refrigerator is to warm the beer....

Yes, BUT...how much ice was lost when the temp climbed to a balmy -47c?

Don't fear. CO2 won't start snowing until the temp gets a bit past -70C. And that'll wreak havoc with the fizzies in our beer.

Afraid to face reality I see, when analogue puts a hole in your nit picks over statistics.

After looking at 25,000 trends that mark the start of spring among British wildlife across the country, the ecologists concluded that on average the seasonal timing of reproduction and population growth has moved forward by 11 days since 1976.

Perhaps only in Britain you say?? The flora and fauna there might be under some evil conspiracy to commit them to earlier migrations and blooming..

Not so...

Australia bakes through warmest decade on record

Heatwave: 2009 ended Australia's warmest decade on record. (ABC TV: Chris Keane)

The Bureau of Meteorology says figures showing Australia has experienced its hottest decade since records began in 1910 are clear evidence of climate change.
Only a few cranks dispute the A in AGW...even the fossil fuel companies do not - haven't for 15 years....did you not get the memo??

Similar group of cranks contest evolution, smoking effect on cancer and other dated notions...fine company you keep.
Much idle chatter, not a speck of science to support the nonsense. :garfield:

There was an excellent one-off Springwatch programme last night about the implications for Britain's wildlife:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00shcl6/Springwatch_2010_Signs_of_Change_with_Chris_Packham/

Chris Packham shows us how changes in nature around us provide solid proof that climate change is already happening. Some of the most powerful data has come from amateur naturalists and recorders. Chris investigates what climate change means for UK plants and animals and predicts the winners and the losers.

Only watchable in the UK, I'm afraid.

So, spring has moved forward by 11 days YET flower growers getting ready for the Chelsea flower show have had to move their flowers in to green houses and poly tunnels BECAUSE spring is late this year.

So once again...who do we trust here? Those who have observed that spring is actually late this year or those who believed they have measured spring arriving early this year?

There was an excellent alarming headline and article that I ran across yesterday.

It really sets you thinking.

Two out of three dead in a year and a half, they say. Nice knowing ya!

Im just wondering whether you actually read that article, which is from February and so is irrelevant to spring this year...WHICH is still in the process of arriving here in Blighty!

The variation between reality and the propaganda is not to be spoken of. Act and pretend like every thing is normal. :D

Hows about we look at spring in another way? Say, if we measured spring backwards from this year doesnt that mean that in 1976 spring was arriving 11 days earlier than today...on average of course? :D

Mailman

ah the scale of comprehension ...or lack thereof boggles the mind...it's trend over time sunshine..what just don't you understand about average?...

You are also the one claiming a cold winter everywhere.... :dl:

Yes, but according to some of your "friends", time doesnt matter? :D

In reality, it seems that time scales can be moved up or down...as long as those same time scales support what ever it is you want to believe about Mann Made Global Warming. In other words, whether is only the climate for as long as that supports your belief in Mann Made Global Warming (tm).

BTW, have you ever wondered why spring, summer, autumn and winter are in convenient 3 month blocks? Perhaps the definition of when spring (or any season) arrives is nothing more than a man made construct (noticed I said man and not Mann? :D).

Anyway, Jones says there has been no statistically significant warming...so he must be right...or should be be excommunicated for betraying the brotherhood? :D

Mailman

Tell that to the plants that are flowering earlier and the birds that are migrating earlier etc etc etc. Obviously they all work to a "man made construct"

It warmed a tenth of a degree in 7 years? So in 70 years, the South Pole will be one degree centigrade warmer?

Well, considering that the Antarctic has always been predicted to be the last place on planet to see warming then it is significant.

Not really. Because the western peninsula stretches way, way on up from the pole.

But don't worry, we've figured out that the carbon dioxide snow will not yet happen, and we are working on warmers for the frozen beer.

Trout fishing in Tierra De Fuego can only improve. It's already the best in the world, so better means ... the best in the universe. So aliens will come to fish trout at the tip of South America in their sleek spaceships.

Life is good.

Back to barbequeing those fat penquins....
