I must admit that I do rub the Buddah's belly and wish for fun at restaurants though. Seems harmless enough.

I found the novel I was talking about. It's called Passage by Connie Willis. It got a Hugo Award nomination, so I would assume it's categorized as Sci-Fi.

I liked it.

I hate to break it to you, but the chap with the big tummy is not the Buddha. He's Ho-Tei, a Chinese Buddhist saint.
