In the last week or so I started getting spotty Sprint 4G LTE service here in Chicago, supposedly should be complete in December. But holy crap is it fast where it's up and running! I noticed I was getting a 4G signal yesterday when I was out and about and ran a speed test and got my fastest result yet: 36,436kbps download 12,493kbps upload. :jaw-dropp

That's nearly twice as fast as my cable internet at home! No need for wifi with that kind of data rate. And I have an unlimited data plan.

Now to find a mobile bit torrent app. :cool:
 
That's pretty sweet. Wonder if it will slow down when more people are using it though?
 
4G has become available to use in a few UK cities. As of now it is a bit costly and there are no unlimited data deals.

Any fair use restrictions in Chicago?

What's a "fair use restriction"?
 
A couple of months ago 4g lte here completely disappeared for 2 days -- all I had was wireless wifi at home.

After 2 days, 3g started working. It took about a week before 4g lte kicked on. Never found out why. It was the same both at work and home so it wasn't just one local tower with an issue.

in the UK data networks can sell "unlimited" data plans which have restrictions on how, and how much, you can use the connection. For instance it could restrict tethering, torrenting or other uses of the network, they can even place caps on your data usage and still call it "unlimted", for some reason the courts are fine with this.

I see nothing like that in the fine print of my plan, other carriers might though.
 
I saw some impressive tests done in the UK cities where it is started up. However, it has only recently been a situation where I get decent 3G in my house so I could be waiting sometime. Although I heard that EE were able to start up quicker due to them using some unused capacity in their system hence their headstart in the UK

Talk to your elected officials and ask why they are allowing the use of the word "unlimited" with limited plans, especially capped plans.

are you suggesting we should lobby for further government regulation of the industry rather than let the market decide?
