Having a goal to achieve by saying something, as a pre-requisite to saying it at all? What a doopy notion... what goal do you think that's supposed to achieve for you?

Is this addressed to me? I'm sorry but I don't understand your post.

My goal re pointing out that repeating the GOP narrative about Biden being "too old" is having a negative impact on keeping Trump from being re-elected.

If one wants to see Trump re-elected, one should keep it up. If one thinks by repeating the GOP narrative that Biden is too old it will result in the Democrats putting forth a different nominee one is fooling oneself.

I think that's absolutely true. But in the US said wealth is flowing quite a bit further down the hill than it has under most GOP administrations.

But .0002% of wealth going to the 99% is not much different than .0001%.

And that's the problem, with the exception of the Progressive wing the Democratic party is not much more enthusiastic in pulling the levers that will effect the radical changes needed to reverse the inequality in society.

The economic decline for most people in the USA has been going on for decades, with both parties contributing to it. Smaller fluctuations within that trend, on the scale of a few years or less, matter less & less the longer the overall trend continues with nobody even pretending to make any attempt to change it. That makes it keep getting harder & harder for politicians to attract voters by claiming to have caused the latest little speck of a blip upward (or downward more slowly) over the previous year or two.

The latest blip isn't what made people's lives mathematically multiple times harder than they were 20 or 40 or 50 years ago. The latest blip is just something some politicians sometimes point to while acting as if the real problem, the 20-or-40-or-50-year problem, didn't exist. And that's a move that pushes voters away more than it attracts them.

Speaking of the 2024 election, bossy SG repeats:

Biden is not too old. He is going to be the candidate. Get over it and stop amplifying GOP messaging! No matter if you believe it and no matter where you are repeating it, here, other social media sites, or with friends and colleagues, stop repeating it.

I've pointed out before people are being conned into repeating the GOP narrative. Keep it up. You're in my basket of written-off never-gets-its.

I know people will always be resistant to hearing they might be a GOP puppet, no way, not them, they are too smart. I didn't address persuading them perfectly. I can't be concerned about every naysayer who didn't like me anyway.

But it does soak in because people know it's true. Some people might ask themselves, why do they believe Biden is too old when they hear his long list of accomplishments as POTUS?

His age is the talking point....

Regardless, I will keep pointing out things like how damaging it is that Democrats are repeating 'Biden is too old'. I'm sure folks on this forum who do so are convinced the GOP did not influence that belief. Just look at Biden, it's obvious. His legs are skinny and he fell off his bike. ;)

I find it annoying the media points out Biden's signs of aging while ignoring Trump's. That is changing big time now given Trump's gaffes have become too blatant to ignore. Good timing for me to be pointing out Biden isn't too old after all.

That's not what I said either. I said people should stop repeating the GOP narrative that Biden is too old and he's senile because he isn't either of those. I'm not pushing overly optimistic claims, you aren't paying attention.

As for the rest of your paragraph, Biden is going to be the nominee. I'm not sure what anyone supporting the Democratic Party and still calling him too old expects to gain. There isn't going to be a different nominee.

If it is clear Biden is the nominee, what is the point of going on and on about him being too old? I'm not saying you specifically have been going on and on but it seems to be a common theme in the 2024 election and related election threads.

My goal re pointing out that repeating the GOP narrative about Biden being "too old" is having a negative impact on keeping Trump from being re-elected.

Skeptic Ginger deserves a ton of credit for taking advantage of every opportunity to remind us that some say "Biden is too old".

The election is 10 months out. I doubt only 367 people are undecided.

I think a lot of people have gotten over the GOP blaming the unions for the high price of everything. It's about time for the anti-union sentiment to swing the other way. We've had a couple of decades where unions were demonized. During that time large employers made excessive profits while the worker productivity has increased but their wages stagnated.

Those employers had the option of sharing the profits they benefitted from when worker productivity increased. But for the most part they chose to keep the profits without sharing them with the workers responsible for the increased productivity. Now it's going to come back to bite them. And this is one reason why Trump's con is of limited value. Four years was enough for him to show his colors. And they won't be that difficult to campaign against.

Biden/Trump head to head undecided? While I think 367 voters is an understatement, its not much of one. Undecided as in: Biden versus 3rd party versus staying home on election day? Yeah theres probably millions of voters in that camp. And maybe 100k people in the 6 or 7 states that will decide for the rest of us who will be our president. (ETA: I am getting more and more cynical and disgusted* that the future of our democracy will be decided by a small minority of people subverting what will almost certainly be a majority for "not Trump").

*best word I can come up with

Well, I guess you have got us all talking about Biden being old and floating the question of dementia.

We literally weren't saying that until now, so you have put it on the agenda.

What a joke, no one was saying it until now?

"We literally weren't saying that until now,...."

In this thread, people were not talking about Joe Biden having dementia. I never said "no one".

Take the rise in unions, for example. Auto workers got a decent wage increase.

He just gained a few million from DeSantis' endorsement. He'll be gaining a few million more when Haley eventually endorses him.

There never were any DeSantis votes to speak of.

Haley's votes will not go to Trump.

But none of these mean anything. He has less votes than in 2020. He only has his 2016 base.

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/01/25/trump-critics-new-hampshire-win-00137726

A pre-caucus NBC News/Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll of voters in Iowa found that 43 percent of Haley supporters said they would back President Joe Biden over Trump.

And in New Hampshire, 46 percent of GOP primary voters said they would be dissatisfied if Trump became the GOP nominee, and 35 percent said they would not vote for him in November.

Exit polls also showed four out of 10 people who cast a ballot for Haley in New Hampshire said they did so out of distaste for Trump. And 94 percent of Haley’s voters said they would be dissatisfied if Trump won the nomination.

Fully half of Iowa’s Republican caucusgoers said they did not identify as part of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement. Even more — 63 percent — said the same in New Hampshire.

i think trump is a pretty weak candidate this time around tbh. he's never been more boring or uninspired and he's buried in very real legal problems that are getting worse, and he's alienated many of his allies over the years. he won't stop talking about election fraud, he's stuck in 2016, and he's making less sense than he ever has. he's lost them a few election cycles now and the gop doesn't really have any accomplishments to hang it's hat on. most of what they're trying to ding biden on just isn't sticking either imo.

Right now Trump is barely able to fill tiny venues for his rallies. He once filled 10,000 seat locations, now he can barely fill 700 seat venues. He's in late Spinal Tap mode.

Worse, he's showing serious signs of decline. He doesn't move much on stage, just rants and complains. He hardly even looks like the weak man's idea of a strong man anymore. Every shot of him at a rally he looks flustered and strained. His base doubtless still loves him, but they are also tired of him.

Has he gained any voters since 2020? He may have lost some from 1/6, as well as from his whole stolen documents thing. He might lose more if he loses a legal suit.

Trump gained voters from 2016 to 2020 because I suspect a number of fans hadn't bother to register to vote in 2016, just assuming he would lose like the polls showed. They probably registered during his term, having enjoyed his chaotic, racist-filled term.

But from 2020-2024? He's only been in the public eye with court cases and his ravings on his own social media. When campaigning he mostly just complains about those cases, he doesn't even pull out the "I know more about ISIS than the generals" crap anymore.

That being said he should not be written off because it is possible that Biden may lose voters as well. Purity test by progressives can really hamstring a candidate like Biden and while I doubt such voters will vote for Trump, they very well may stay home.
