2012 Debates

As I recall, after Reagan had used the line against Carter, Mondale was prepared for his "there you go again" and turned it right back on him, showing how Carter's accusation that he would propose cuts in Medicare were on the mark. I think Palin also tried it against Biden.

For my money, the best blow in these debates was the "I knew John Kennedy - you're no John Kennedy" line that Bentsen used against Quayle.

That was about two notches beyond "Classic!". It was bad enough that some home team supporters were saying that Quayle was the next Kennedy, but potato-boy picked up on it and started using first oblique and then direct references to the analogy.

And let's not forget "Who am I? Why am I here?" Poor schmuck!

Yes, Quayle really was in a class by himself when it comes to buffoonish moments in front of reporters.

So, tonight is the big night. Round One. The Denver Dustup. Could'ja just plotz with excitement? No?

I am of the "THe Debates do not really have a major impact unless one of the candidates really blows it bigtime" school of thought.

Which I think is valid... They probably have more to lose from a bad mistake than they have to win from a solid performance.

It is still interesting to me to see the two of them side by side. In a usual debate it's interesting to see two candidates standing next to each other. If you think about it, it is one of the few times we will ever be able to see the two candidates standing shoulder to shoulder.

This debate is more interesting to me because of the stark differences between each of them as people. Obama is much more hip and modern but feels more standoff'ish. Romney is very old school white / rich which has its own vibe which is COMPLETELY different from Obama's.

Very interesting from a people watching standpoint.

I'm anxious to see what shade of orange Mittens appears to be.

This perhaps?

Zingers?

A friend suggested this was a ruse to get the press to focus on what isn't to come. If so then it's shrewd. If not it's incredibly idiotic to let everyone know the strategy and that these were rehearsed and inorganic.

I've never seen such hype about a debate in all my years. Both CNN and MSNBC (I couldn't bear to surf Fox yet) have had pre-debate nonsense on ALL DAY LONG. It's insane. I'm going out. I'll watch the reruns.

I wonder who is watching this thinking they will hear something that will change their minds?

I'm so excited right now I think I might throw up.

What will the Mittenator slam Obama with first? There is quite a range of failures to hammer away at, each more pathetic than the last. I hope there's a good mix of new stuff (Benghazi cluster-****) along with some oldies but goodies like his intimate and lengthy association with the racist nutjob Jeremiah Wright.

Ooh - please don't forget to throw in a couple of classic Mitt "zingers" about Obama's kindred spirits over at Occupy Wall Street.

Awesome. Cranking some Rage Against The Machine right now and getting pumped.

The Mayor of Denver (I think) just said something to the extent of "we didn't know how bad of an economy Obama would serve under"....LOL WUT? Wasn't the 2008 Obama campaign a war against Republicans and Bush and how they ravaged the economy?
