Quick note - the problem with Youtube videos not embedding on the forum appears to have been fixed, thanks to ZiprHead. If you do still see problems let me know.
I told him I didn't want it but he keeps persisiting. I finally agreed and had an appointment today, but I cancelled it.
This is a workers comp insurance claim. He has his own floor of the hospital (Occupational Therapy) with the physical therapists, and an accupuncturist as well.
I told him I...
Hi Guys,
My wife seems convinced that acupuncture cured her back problem, but I've seen some bad press on it. So my question is - Acupuncture - scam or legit?
I just moved to a new town and I was looking for a veteranarian. I did a "Yelp" search and some other background work and found one nearby that had good reviews, so I called.
First thing they did was put me on a lengthy hold, which is a big red flag to me in the first place, but in their "on...

I know some of you people can tear apart a good research paper better than me. So please prove the previous statement correct by do so on this article.
The only issues I can come up with are...
Yet another Alt Med failure.

Well, the owl wasn't flying before--now it is--so, it must be the acupuncture, right?
Granted, those needles probably don't hurt the animal much, but it just makes me cringe seeing that poor...
I was vaguely aware my cousin was titled "Dr." and had a pretty thriving practice featuring acupuncture and vitamins in the Miami, FL area.
I was unaware that he could be a primary care practitioner.
Basically, my aunt asked for a referral for a specialist MD. I said maybe she could get a...
Amazing (to me, at least) to see this detailed and seemingly very credible dissection of "traditional Chinese medicine" in the online magazine Slate.
..."exporting Chinese medicine presented a formidable task, not least because there was no such thing as “Chinese medicine.” For thousands of...

Retired flight surgeon and Skeptical Inquirer reporter Dr. Harriet Hall has criticized the U.S. military for sanctioning acupuncture and permitting "treatment" by cupping and moxibustion.
Maybe we should have let them keep on playing with goats. At least there they weren't hurting anyone.
I have a dog about 17 years old that has severe arthritis. Because of other health issues, she is not a candidate for steroid therapy, and the vet has recommended acupuncture. (Perhaps not coincidentally, he performs the procedure at a cost of $50 per treatment, it will take four treatments for...
Pet acupuncture more popular as practice becomes more mainstream
There's an American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Sound's legit.
Approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Must be legit.
Dog therapy? Organic pet food? Yoga for dogs? Sounds good to me!
Only for those...

About five years ago, a childhood friend was seriously injured in a freak accident. She worked as a bookkeeper for a grocery store chain and a TV stand attached to the ceiling directly above her desk partially collapsed. The TV fell on her head, breaking a couple vertebrae. She has had a couple...
Ok, so I turn on the TV and it's BBC News in the morning, and two women, one a doctor and one...I'm not sure, are talking about the benefits of acupuncture for treating sleep disorders.
The thing that surprised me the most was that the doctor, Dr Sarah Jarvis was claiming that acupuncture has...
So I'm booking a boat ride and notice the tour company advises passengers to bring Dramamine or "those wristbands" to combat seasickness. A quick search led me to BioBands anti-nausea wristbands which are just cloth straps that pin a small plastic pellet to a pressure point on your...

I think Novella was great on TV, but Oz didn't give him enough room to reply properly. Steve has offered Oz a public forum for unedited discussion through SBM or SGU, I doubt Oz is going to bite. Anyways, I'd definitely like to see more of Steve on TV, well...

Out of all the "alternative" treatments out there, Acupuncture is the one treatment modality I find I have a hard time dismissing out of hand. Reiki, homeopathy? No problem, obvious junk.
For acupuncture there seems to be a fair body of evidence that shows effectiveness for some conditions...
Acupuncture improves cognitive deficits and regulates the brain cell proliferation of SAMP8 mice.

I realize that acupuncture has been a well worn subject of debate on the Forum, but with reference to this article, in particular:
... surely the swelling claim could, and should (if it hasn't!), be easily tested scientifically. Can the placebo effect potentially account for reduced swelling?!

The BBC reports a paper claiming that acupuncture alleviates dental phobia. The actual paper is a case series, not a clinical trial. No control group, no blinding. I have complained to the BBC that the article is biassed, as the paper does not provide rigorous evidence, and they should have...
I've recently had some very strong debates about acupuncture. First off, I'm not totally convinced it isn't real but that is the way I'm leaning. I find when I take the skeptical position, people get very angry! More so than if I was debating gods existing.
Acupuncture seems to be more accepted...
